JFKimberly, did you use your deep fat fryer?

2.) Been having lots of extra band rehearsals and all day rehearsals this weekend as we work hard to get ready for the National Brass Band Championships next weekend!!  :o

3.) Spent my afternoon yesterday knee deep in statistics and doing engineering maths and I was happier than a pig in sh*t.   [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] [smiley=smitten.gif] :D [smiley=heart.gif]

Yes!  My husband is on a quest to perfect the perfect chip, so it's easy to convince him we should have chips with dinner.  So fish and chips in my new fryer.  I actually don't even use it.  I just chop or prep whatever I want, and my husband does the frying.  Eggrolls will be happening again soon.  And I have been saving a jar of Vlasic pickle juice for months to brine some chicken in (I read about it in a Chick-fil-A copycat recipe... a pinch of sugar in the breadcrumb coating for colour and sweetness, and brine the chicken chunks in pickle juice... those are the secrets, and they make sense, so I'm going to try it).

Oh!  This is the competition you were fundraising for, right?  Did you guys meet your goal?  Good luck next weekend!

I don't know what you do for work, but I totally relate to your maths delight.  I get to do all of our workshop calculations.  That's the one area where I get to be better than my husband at something.

Margo, have you booked your test, or are you just studying now before booking?  I'm sure you'll pass first try.  Just be sure to practice those hazard perception clips... for me, the hard part was figuring out when I was supposed to click.

I'm glad you were able to get your tooth fixed.

Interesting! I'd never seen it called catmint so that explains the difference. :)

I have a lot of catmint it in the garden, it's a really pretty blue and great for ground cover.  :) Some cats do love it.  I accidentally hozed one of the neighbour cats one day when she was rolling around in the middle of a clump and I was watering the garden!  Oops!

Cats go mental for olives just like they do for catnip. Try it.

Ahh!
You're going to think I'm weird but I don't really like giving my cats nip. I'm scared it's going to hurt them in a 'drugs are bad for you' sort of way!
My husband thinks it's great though... watching the cats, not taking the nip!  ;D

It's the smell of them. They have a property similar to catnip. My cat will eat about half an olive though.

I fried some up one day in my air fryer and poor Pedro Felix got stoned out of his face from the smell of them.

This is when I Googled and discovered the magic olives. Lol

There are so many things about this post I don't understand that I don't know what to ask first.

1. Fried olives?  What?

2. What kind(s) of olives make cats stoned?

3. Do brined olives work, or fresh ones?  Do people even eat fresh ones?

Why don't I know anything about olives?!

I'm intrigued because I've never had a cat go for olives.

Valerian root however is a different story. I didn't realise it was in the same family as catnip and made myself a cup of tea (during a period of insomnia, trying anything that might help). Sat on the ground with my kitty nearby and she went NUTS. I had to lock myself in another room to finish it.

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Friday Five!

FRIDAY! FRIDAY! FRIDAY!

1.  It's been a crazy non-stop week.  Landed on Tuesday, greeted at the door by husband's cousin and her daughter who very kindly stayed with us for a few days to look after 4 year old due to the crazy staggered start school schedule, so entertaining/cooking every night.  Local American meetup dinner last night.  Company do tonight.  First dance classes tomorrow.  AGGGHHH!!!!

2.  I've got my accessories for the stupid "forced fun" Club Tropicana company party tonight.  I will post a photo later.

3.  Tomorrow I start teaching dance.  The owner of the franchise stopped by on Wednesday night with "my kit".  I used to show up to my dance classes with my shoes.  HOLY COW.  I have dozens of bears, wands, tambourines, scarves, stamps, stickers, mats, spots, etc., that will now reside permanently in my boot.

4.  The airline destroyed our buggy on our return from holiday this week.  Second one lost to an airline.

5.  And the big news of the day, my sweet 4 year old had her first day of school today!  We just picked her up and were going to go out to lunch to celebrate but she asked to eat lunch at home.  So we are.

. Cheeky bubbles after dropping her off to celebrate!

Well done Larabee for starting on the garage.  Mine took me all last Saturday and it's not perfect, but it's much better!

JFKimberly, I'm an engineer so doing these things is not unknown, but the stuff yesterday was quite complex, so I was really stuck in and happy.   We didn't hit our fundraising target, so everyone in the band has had to kick in for flights, etc. But we're not too far away, so not too much out of pocket expense.

SoS, if we won a trophy (we won't, lol) , you can guarantee we won't be giving it back.  We'll be drinking from it. HA. I actually only saw Brassed Off for the first time a few months ago.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!
