Maybe if there's some niche you could sell, just enough to gross 100k a year or so.
I don't personally know anyone...not a single soul... who earns £100k.  You make it sound like Margo could probably just scrape by on 100k! LOL  :o [smiley=laugh3.gif]

the mobile phone company I work for has lots of home based "agents", who do simple customer service stuff from their homes.  The only down side is that the pay is fairly low.

How low?  I get the feeling that your idea of low is probably my idea of normal, and I would LOVE to work from home!!

I completely feel your pain.  Your skills are totally valuable and filled with all the hottest and latest buzz words , but it seems like the normal work environment is really just too tough.

Have you thought about making your own company, releasing some product or service where there is no expectation that you will ever go to the customer's office?  Like making apps for mobile phones, or independent analysis of some kind of data that you know well.  Maybe if there's some niche you could sell, just enough to gross 100k a year or so.  Then you could have your own office in a shed in the back yard that you could set up exactly how you want.  I know it's not easy and I probably couldn't do it , but some people do.

I've recently learned that the mobile phone company I work for has lots of home based "agents", who do simple customer service stuff from their homes.  The only down side is that the pay is fairly low.  If you could find a more skilled version of that, it might work.
I'm going to get up to speed on more of the open source languages and try to find a charity analyst job in the disability sector. It's hard because the only data I know crazy well is US mortgage origination and servicing. But a lot of those elements are repeated across a variety of industries, its just the cultural environment here is that if you aren't in the office you aren't working and they often don't believe in transferable skills. (with brexit, maybe that'll change because they won't have enough skilled employees to fill gaps) It's just been wholly disheartening.

One thing I am passionate about is medical cannabis access, so I'm going to try and volunteer with some of the organisers who are an active part of the conversation. I know they already have researchers and analysts but maybe one more will help! (it's looking like Nov 2019 for having NICE guidelines on prescribing!)

You guys are confusing a salary of 100 k with having a company that grosses 100k a year.  There's a big difference.  To start with, you can count on paying 20k as corporation tax, unless you are a tax evading criminal empire like Face Book, Amazon or Google.

Apples and oranges .

I'd bet you do!
Not me though, my salary is something like 18k.

Fibber! You couldn't live on that near London unless your wife is a sugar mama! :)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

The reality is less interesting.  I have a limited company for my consulting work, and it pays me the minimum wage as a salary.  I take more money out as dividends , because taxes on dividends are lower than taxes on salaries.  Because the people who make the  tax laws make money from dividends.   Still, I'm not taking home 100 k per year.

I used to regularly hire (for the organization) brand new PhDs with salaries above $200,000.
And I used to wince every single time.

Getting closer to home!

I’m imagining both bosses saying things like, “I have been missing you on my shifts, you are the best there is.” And Mr. Pilot overhearing it all!

I made it back - yay!

Turned out that two of the three frustrating pilots were on my flight - luckily I didn’t have to talk to either of them during the journey :P.

Welcome home!

Here’s hoping you don’t fall asleep in your dinner and that you’ll be in a lovely long, warm shower before you know it.
