both my sister and my husband want to go to the Sedlec Ossuary in Czech Republic,

10 out of 10 for the most bizarre place I've ever been.  When I lived in Prague we went several times because it is so weirdly fascinating.

I think they have a UK version in a town on the south coast that we missed because it was closed.

KFDancer, your sister paying for a giant expensive trip sounds weird.  Seems like a move to induce a power dynamic that would be unhelathy.  Unless she won the lottery and literally has money coming out of her ears, there's just no reason.  I'd pay my own way.

That would be Kimberly, not KFdancer Jimbo.

Sorry, just too lazy to start a new post.

By the way, those grits you sent me were completely bizarre , but in a really good way.  Really smooth, and  tasted like pasta.  More like polenta than grits.  Thanks again.

Probably been that long since you've eaten real grits. Quaker aren't real grits but Bless Their Hearts, they try.

And you're welcome.

So, never having liked grits as a child when I was in Texas so I don't know, what is the best brand of grits?

Speaking of Quaker, I used to just love their oatmeal. Then became a Bob's Red Mill Scottish Oatmeal fan. Now have discovered Flahavan's Irish Oats. Darned tasty, the Fla-Ha-Vans.  ;D

Nan,

I sent Jimbo grits that were milled in the next town up from where I lived in North Carolina and just 2 towns up from where his grandparents lived and where he often visited as a lad.

Well, they'd be authentic then!

I remember grits mostly from when I went on school band trips. We invariably stopped at the local armory, where we'd unroll our sleeping bags and then they'd serve us "breakfast" the next morning. And almost always there was a blob of stuff they told me was "grits" on the plate. Sometimes it was even warm. No amount of butter or syrup could make them go down well - my throat closed off immediately in revolt! ;)

Well that sounds interesting. Is it easy to find sushi rice here?

We are deciding what to do for Tuesday. (It is Brexit voting day, no?)  So far the concensus is to binge-watch our stash of "Ghost Hunters" DVDs, maybe followed by some "House". Or Miyazaki. Or maybe just put all the Captain America DVDs we own on. And have Darios send us a pizza and an Insalata Caprese. Anything but live TV.

We'll read about the carnage in the morning papers on Wednesday.

Yes. It's in the Asian section of Tesco, Sainsbury's, etc . Or any Asian grocery store.

Coolies. I have to go easy on white rice, but I enjoy it with a bit of veg now and then.  ;D

Ooh, speaking of rice... (this is turning into a food thread!)
I bought a big bag of Thai glutinous rice and made Thai sticky rice and  prawn Massaman curry on Friday night. Wasn't impressed by the actual curry (The star anise taste was too much for me) but the sticky rice was pure amazing!! Luckily I made loads, as OH loved it too and we both snacked on the leftovers yesterday. I'd been prepared for it to be a failure, but it came out great!  :D

We got the sushi rice in the local asian food store that seems to have everything.  Including some frozen Thai sticky rice with Durian which Albatross reminded me of.  My daughter, the self appointed specialist in sushi burritos, said that it won't be worth eating if we don't have Japanese Mayo.  So we bought a squeezy bottle for £4 at the Asian supermarket.  Did a taste test and the difference is barely noticeable, we could have easily bought Hellman's and added a bit of sushi vinegar and sugar.  We also threw away all the soy sauce and wasabi that was 7 years out of date.

After spending tons and making a special trip for the mayo, the teenager pouted and sat there with a face like a smacked ass the whold dinner.

Other than the mayo, we could have bought everything at Tesco.  Seaweed, vinegar, ginger, they've got everything.
