This is my first Friday 5! Here are my five facts:

1. I was sick on the wobbly train this morning. Not my finest moment.
2. I've lost my glasses and I'm using the back-up pair.
3. Someone has brought chocolate cake to the office. Winning!
4. I've just been sent through a round of exams to take for a software development trainee position thing which I'm excited about.
5. I found out my kidney and I were not matched to a recipient in this month's kidney sharing scheme, so we'll have more time together.

Margo - it IS lovely out today here! Don't know about everybody else but it does definitely make me feel slightly brighter just having the extra bit of sunlight and warmth.

Ashley - cake is NEVER a bad thing :)

Welcome to Friday Five!  Sorry about your train sickness and losing your glasses, but yay for having the backup pair, chocolate cake, and the Software Dev position potential!  Good luck with the exam results!  As for your kidney: you're awesome for being part of the sharing scheme! (I have a tattoo on my left shoulder that says "Organ Donor" around a recycle symbol, but I haven't actually donated any organs... yet.  I just wanted to make my wishes clear should I be unable to speak.  Plus, I only have one kidney, so one day I might need one, and it would be rude to live my life relying on this fact without offering up my own parts in exchange.)

Margo, I've been basking in the spring-like weather, too.  My husband was worried because one of our space heaters has started to cook itself so I am not using it, and he thought the house would be cold.  But I was able to point out how mild the weather was yesterday and is today.  It's beautiful.  :)  Enjoy those long weekends.  My husband has been doing the same.  We had a three-day weekend week before last, and will have a four-day weekend starting tonight.  Yay!

lyonaria, good luck with the interview!  And please let us know how your husband gets on.

9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued

8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!

HeyJay,

I'm now an expert on sleep Apnea, so feel free to ask me for my story if you'd like to hear.

If you are planning on going through the NHS for treatment, you'd better be ready for a long wait. From the time I first saw my GP to the time I would have received the results of my sleep study would have been something like 9 months.  That's ridiculous when you can get it done in one week over the Internet.

Also, as you will undoubtedly learn today, your GP will pressure you not to drive.  FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR it will take to actually get a machine.  Even worse, once you get a diagnosis, you are required by law to notify the DVLA and they will start work to remove your licence.

Don't worry though, I managed to keep my license and everything is good between me and the DVLA because I simply bought my own machine and started treatment immediately.

PM me or start a new thread if you want more details of what I've learned.

Hey Ashley, did you Read that article in the Guardian about kidney donations in the Guardian?  They do these simultaneous chain transplants a few times a month

I did not! I'm registered at the nearest hospital with a kidney wing, which is actually 2 hours away in South London which is where they hold all my documents about all the tests and scans I did. They run the matching every three months. I've got B - blood so I might just have to donate to someone off the regular list if the next round of matching falls through! :)

On a side note, part of me wonders if someone receives an American kidney (or "white other" kidney) are you then like 5% American? Should I warn the recipient about the IRS?  ;) hehehehe

Thanks!  I did actually think about getting in touch because I know you had done a home test.  I did warn Dave that we may have to go that route, but he told me to give the NHS a go first and we can try privately after that.  Will have to weigh up the costs of doing a home test vs what our private cover will pay.

My GP gave me a questionnaire for Dave to fill out about my sleep in the night, and I turned that in yesterday, so we'll see if I hear anything back.

My five:

1.  I'm one week into my de-stress vacation.  It's been such a nice week.  My boss contacted me twice by text on Monday and Tuesday.  Tuesday, she had the cojones to ask if I wanted to step down from my promotion, which shows just how out of touch she is if she thinks that's the problem.  Eventually I just had to tell her we would talk about this on my return - that I'm in no state to be dealing with it now.  I try not to panic about how much I just do not want to go back, but the thought does cross my mind.  I wouldn't miss it a single bit.  Have definitely got to find something else.

2.  London was great.  I passed up The Cheese Wheel this time for "dirty buffalo" fried chicken and chips, which was delicious.  Sadly, Death by Taco is no more.  :(  The Steel Panther concert was also good, much better than the last time we saw them.  The worst part was having to wait half an hour for the Roundhouse bottleneck to die down afterward...

3.  One of my co-workers is in NYC at the moment and she WhatsApped me a picture of some Hidden Valley ranch that she is bringing back for me.  :)  Hooray!

4.  We've been watching Fresh Off the Boat on Amazon Prime.  Absolutely hilarious.  It's so nice to have found a funny show without all the sitcom laughter in the background.

5.  I've been watching a lot of video game speedruns this week, and it's getting me excited for Awesome Games Done Quick in Orlando in January.  Can't wait!
