Luckily we didn't do it to make YOU feel good.
We did it to make HIM feel good, and it worked... he was bowled over by the surprise and seems really happy today  :)
We are 'nice' to him every day, despite him being fairly difficult to like.  We are helping him to celebrate a 'big' birthday because we're pretty sure he won't be getting any kind of a celebration, or even a bit of special attention at home, from what we know of his personal life.

I see nothing wrong in that.

Your description of him was really not kind. Using words like awkward and inept, and feeling badly for someone because of those traits really didn't paint a positive picture. I'm glad it had the desired outcome though and you all feel good about yourselves.

Ok but don’t laugh! Step aerobics! I found a girl who has a ton of videos on YouTube and she has a good pace and no over the top “you can do it” chat. They’re low impact (the two I found) and I cannot breathe (in a good way) during and after them.  :D

The Step Aerobics was my favourite exercise on Wii Fit!  I miss my Wii Fit.  It was stupid fun... and it game-ified getting in shape.

Our Mii's... were they locally stored on the machine, or were they in Nintendo's network?  I wonder if my old Mii is downloadable, or if I'd have to start over.

I'd need the console, the balance board, and the game.  And a place to set it up.  Our second bedroom is probably that place, but it'd be a bit cramped.  It's more a box room than bedroom.

How many more times?
We didn't do it to feel good about ourselves.... we did it to brighten his day up and make him feel good.

He would be the first to admit he is awkward and inept... and a lot of other descriptive words that are a lot less kind, which is sad.  But I don't feel bad about using those words to try to paint the picture.  He's a mess!
The bottom line is, I know him and you don't, so your attempt at trying to find some badness in our attempt to boost his morale is ridiculous.

I had one of those! Only used it a handful of times but it was something to get me moving. My favorite (then) was The Firm Transfirmer but sweet lord I can’t do it now. I guess I left my coordination in the states lol.

I left my fitness in the States.  I've been so lazy since I came over here.  I need to be more active before I lose what little stamina I've got.

***I'm putting my moderator hat on here.  Words. Well they can be misinterpreted in many ways. Also, some subjects are quite difficult in words and again be misinterpreted.  We all have different perspectives in life.

I made a total social media *bleep* up in just words the other day and it wasn't what I had intended. When explained back to me how they interpreted it,  I was horrified.

I don't want us as a community to refrain from posting stuff in case it gets misinterpreted, but we also just need to remember that words can be emotive and bring us to different places.

It sounds like the co-worker enjoyed his 40th birthday celebration.   [smiley=balloon.gif]  and there isn't enough kindness in the real world. True kindness, is lovely.
However, I see all sides of the story so I am not going to take sides and do any moderation at this time.  Just a friendly reminder. Real people read the words on the other side of what we write. :) ***

I had written up a big reply and tapatalk ate it :(

Heyjay - wait until you see if the company will take on board any of the OH recommendations. They have no legal requirements to unfortunately. They can deem any part of them "unreasonable" for the business and then send you down the official grievance and tribunal routes :( I know you don't trust your union too much either, but I would try to get them on your side as you may need their help. I'm sorry HR/managers are being so difficult :(

JFK - for the lung charity, they may have run out of funding for IT and lost whichever volunteers managed social media. I would get to know the group and their leadership before making any decisions on helping. I learned the hard way that the management can make or break what it's like to volunteer for something!

My five....

1. Car passed its first MOT since we bought it with no issues. *phew*

2. Officially out of money. Need to quickly find a way to earn enough to cover car insurance and US bills. Probably going to go the route of selling crafts and continuing to file a self assessment at least until my hands give out. My TOR 12 months have passed so at least I can do that without having to buy new materials. Thank goodness you don't need to sign up for VAT until you're doing a much bigger volume than I will.

3. I started a seed tray a little over a week ago and have my first little sprouts! I don't have a heated propagator so some will take a lil longer, but that makes me happy.

4. My husband was sad that his barclays thing to validate transfers had died. Thankfully I brought a multi screwdriver set from the US and saved the day and replaced batteries.

5. Signed up for a 6 week course for people with chronic illnesses that the local council sponsor. You can become a patient advocate or peer support after going through it, and it covers some useful topics so I'm looking forward to it. And our local game space is starting a kids club, and they asked if I could help with that so I'll be meeting with them soon.

Congrats on your sprouts!  I always say I have a black thumb, rather than a green thumb.  I have somehow managed to kill Jake, my cactus, this year. -sigh-

Thank you for the advice regarding OH.  I will wait and see what they say, but only as a means of biding my time until I can find alternative employment.  I do not trust my managers anymore, and I will not give them any more of my time than I absolutely have to.

Thankfully, I have been exchanging some very promising correspondence with a recruiter who has shortlisted me for a payroll job in the same city where my husband works.  It pays more than I earn currently, sounds like a good challenge, and is in the private sector.  It sounds absolutely perfect.  Keeping my fingers crossed!

JFK, basically I went back to the person running the contest and was like, "Umm.. I can't make it.. can you give the tickets to someone else?". I felt horrible.  Haven't done that again!

Oban is my favourite town. I'm looking forward to going this summer. I love the Hebrides.

Glencoe is amazing. You need to head to Aviemore next and up to Inverness.

Me too!  I'd love to do a trip where we take the bridge to Skye and then drive south down the Hebrides, ending up in Barra.  Then the ferry to Oban.

The ferry company does a special deal if you keep going only one direction.

Wow, absolute best of luck in that prospect!  Would you two move if you got it, so you'd both be closer to work?

That's awkward and sad about the tickets... I guess they couldn't offer you an alternative prize, but hopefully the tickets were passed along to someone who could use them.

I am so far behind on seeds this year. However, because I'm going to be away for a few weeks in April ,and seedlings don't do well without water/love as established plants, I think most of my plants will be buying plug plants or direct sow this year.

Maybe it's too late, but last time I bought tires I used blackcircles.com. They were super cheap, cheaper than Costco and they came to my house and fitted the tires in my driveway.

That sounds really convenient, but I'm already booked in for a place local to me tomorrow.  :/  With MOT booked for Monday, I don't really have time to do anything different at this point.  The tires I'm getting are super cheap, though, so that's good... as long as they don't explode.  :P
