Oh no ksand! I hope your dad heals quickly. With no complications he should be up and about mostly on his own by then, if not fully cleared for travel.

Which music festival are you off to? (I still think we need to plan a UKY meet up at a small one next summer)

Thanks :). He's already been told he will not be cleared for travel, due to the risk of DVT (and also it's like a 24-hour journey on two long-haul flights - it would be really uncomfortable for him), so sadly he won't be coming to South Africa. The question will be whether the rest of us still go or not.

It's just a really small one held in a hotel conference centre - only about 400 attendees. It's called Rockwood Festival and several of the performers are both musicians and TV actors :).

Ahh gotcha, that's a long trip. That music festival sounds like a lot of fun! Will Jeff Goldblum be playing? My friends met him at a jazz festival back home!

Sadly no one that famous :P. It's mostly actors from the TV show Supernatural (as the singer organising the festival is good friends with the cast), along with Michael Rosenbaum's band (he played Lex Luthor in Smallville), plus a few non-actor musicians as well.

I'll be brief... probably.

1.  My husband's cold made it's way to me, and it went chesty.  The thing I've been dreading for 7 years has happened: he has seen me at my pulmonary worst.  I guess I prepared him well, because he hasn't freaked out like I expected.  (I am blaming this on the timing of my flu jab with his having a cold... they say not to get the jab if you are sick, but make no mention of the people around you... I think the jab took up all of my immune defenses, and there was nothing left to fight the cold virus my husband tried not to share with me.)

2.  I'm not well.  I'm not in danger, but I'm also not having a good time.  Also, I'm not getting enough sleep.  nctami72, thank you again for the Benadryl you put in the Pass the Parcel.  I don't know if I would get through this cold without it.  Meanwhile, phenylephrine can go f* itself.  (If anybody knows what I should look for if I want guaifenesin (Mucinex) without phenylephrine (fake-sudafed... the stuff that tries to replace pseudoephedrine), I'm willing to give the guaifenesin another go.  I've never tried it before, but I think it's what I need, and phenylephrine is definitely not what I need!)

3.  On the bright side, I haven't had to do the washing up or cooking since Tuesday.  And my husband has made some pretty tasty meals for us.

4.  In other news, my sister heard back from the Assignment board (people who decide where the Air Force is going to send you next), and she got the post she wanted, teaching maths at the Academy in Colorado.  She's very happy, and I'm happy for her... even if I'm not able to visit her in Colorado because the elevation is too high for me, pretty much across the state.  But I wasn't going back to the US any time soon, anyway.  :)

5.  We got Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC this week, and it's been a nice diversion while I deal with this cold.

1.  A week tomorrow I leave for Texas to visit my family.  I'm stressing out about how my man is going to look after my hound while I'm gone.   :\\\'(
2.  My bag is full of tins of shortbread, Scottish tea towels and tartan rugs/blankets/throws as presents for people.  If that's not good enough, they can whistle.
3.  Once I get that trip over with, I've lots to look forward to when I get back... a week off work and a few lunch dates, the works Christmas party, trip to Liverpool for the Ian Prowse/Pele/Amsterdam gig,  Christmas Day meal at Annaya (no cooking for me this year!!), Hogmanay house party... roll on December!
4.  Saw the John Lewis Christmas advert this morning for the first time.  I liked the wee dragon, but... wouldn't it have been better if they'd used the REO Speedwagon version (the original, presumably?) of that song instead of that god-awful abomination of whoever-it-is?
5.  Do they still do free wine in economy class on transatlantic flights?  It's only 3 years since I last went, but I managed an upgrade to business class last time.... don't think I will be that lucky again!  ;D

Happy Friday, all!

Oh no JFKimberly, finding guaifenesin without other stuff is nearly impossible here. Thank you for reminding me I need to include mucinex on my order from my inlaws (that also has dye free benadryl on there). I hope you're able to shake the cold soon. Olbas oil + steam is my savior with chesty things atm.

Happy Friday, all!

Depends on the airline! Air transat gave a free beverage with meal service, BA and Virgin Atlantic both gave free wine with every drinks service the last time I flew.

I hope your pup is well looked after. Ask for pictures! (I can't survive without those anyways) We are lucky our inlaws can take care of the kitty if we ever manage to travel.

Yeah, it does depend on the airline.

The US-owned airlines seem not to  - I've flown United, American and Delta in recent years and they all charge $6-8 per alcoholic beverage. But British Airways and Virgin Atlantic do offer free wine, and I think some other non-US airlines do as well.

Guaifenesin is just your bog-standard chesty cough medicine - it's the main active ingredient in the majority of chesty cough products... there are several products that only contain guaifenesin.

All of these contain just guaifenesin with no other active ingredients:

Aww, feel better soon JFKimberly!
Albatross, I hope you have a nice trip and enjoy some nice beer!

Friday!!

1.) Have started my new job, this week gonna be interesting!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

2.) Have a relatively quiet weekend, barring a rehearsal tomorrow morning. Looking forward to a quiet one.   :D

3.) Need.more.coffee.  [smiley=sleeping2.gif]

4.) I hate baking, but I have some homemade pumpkin puree from one of the homegrown pumpkins in the freezer, so I might make a pie.  I think I still have a can of evaporated coconut milk, so I can make it dairy free for hubby. (Note to self, must get more tins). I made curry and pumpkin butter from the rest of the pumpkin. The pumpkin butter is amazeballs.   [smiley=chef.gif]

5.) Catching up MasterChef tonight/tomorrow night.  Simple things.   ;D
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I wish I could use those, the rest of the ingredients in the syrups make me sick :( mucinex was just guaifenesin in pill form and agreed with me much better.

But hopefully one of ksand24's suggestions will help jfkimberly.
