HUMUNGOUS progress on the house today.

Glad to hear. I've been silently lurking and following your progress! :)

He's already loving not having the smelly food waste bin, which I'm not convinced my council actually recycled/composted anyway as they had us put it all in plastic bags!

My council is so weird about food waste. They seem to not have a council-wide rule; it varies by STREET. They don't collect food waste on my street, but the next street over, they do. In the SAME BOROUGH. I don't get it!

It's a Japanese toilet.

OMG, I'm so curious. DH and I love to watch YouTube travel vloggers, and we see them all the time. Does the seat automatically lift and everything?

3.  Today we are off to Adele at Hyde Park.  At least I don't think she's cancelled yet....  I've been "okay" since Sunday which was pretty awful.  But I am looking forward to tonight and hoping that we can just put our blanket down and sit and watch and not have to stand the whole time.

I hope it goes (went?) well, and not cancelled. I hope you have (had?) a good time! :D

And continued wishes for your recovery; I hope you continue to feel better every day. You've got this! Hope family is still okay too?

(edit - punctuation mistake!)

1. It’s been a very stressful few weeks… I worked 142 hours in 19 days (46 hours more than I would normally work in that time) without a day off.
2. I’m supposed to be leaving Ascension in 4 days, but I’m worried that the plane will be delayed and that I will miss my holiday to the US on the 14th

Yeah, you definitely deserve that holiday. Fingers crossed!!

4. I’m getting my second booster jab this morning… which I’m glad about because who knows when or if I will be offered it in the UK.

Hope all goes well, and it isn't too rough.

Friday Five!

1. I mentioned it in the COVD super-thread, but I'm excited to start a trial of a new long COVID treatment. I'm still struggling significantly health-wise, and the long COVID clinic has determined I'll be a good candidate. Previous smaller studies have been promising!

2. Due to my (I guess extensive?) experience dealing with long COVID, and background of working in healthcare, I'm also happy to be invited (and accepted) to contribute to writing the guidelines for long COVID identification and management for NHS patients.

3. I have had this horrible respiratory-like illness for the last 3 weeks, and I'm still feeling miserable. Haven't been able to leave the flat unless being driven to a medical appointment. Been tested multiple times, and it's not COVID again (supposedly). I think I just need to ride it out, but it's taking it's sweet time.

4. I FINALLY gathered up the courage to request a PIP form. I know it will be a long journey and likely will need to be taken to tribunal, but I think I'm in a mental place where I'm more accepting of needing it, and able to fight for it if needed.

5. The electric wheelchair I've been waiting for was delayed (stock and logistics issues) until mid July. Now it's been delayed AGAIN until the beginning of August. I'm looking forward to the freedom it'll give me to be more independent, so I'm feeling a bit impatient.

BONUS - I had bought some freshly made fudge as a present for some of my work colleagues. But I'm not sure I'll be back at work in person anytime soon. Oh no. I might have to eat the fudge. And no. It's certainly not possible to post it. ;)

Wheels help so much! I really hope you have them soon. Some of the mobility stores can do rentals if it might help in the meantime. I have an invacare espirit action and it's allowed me to start doing things without needing 2+ weeks to recover (plus every step feels like walking on glass shards atm, finally getting new x-rays this week thanks to good rheumatologist) It folds up and fits in the car while still being as comfy as a manual chair.

And good luck on the long covid work! I am still hoping it'll lead to new treatments for other postviral illness. Worrying to see so many exercise recommendations for folks with long covid, they definitely need to separate the reconditioning group (long hospital stays) from the post exertion malaise group. I fear based on the hell friends went through for the last 10 years from the now retracted PACE study that we will be well behind the rest of the world on treatments. But hopefully they really are finally listening and moving forward.

So the concert was great Friday.  We got inside at 8:15 and Adele started at 8:20.  So we didn't see ANYONE else I'm afraid.

BUT we had "fancy tickets" and were quite close to the stage and spent the evening 15 feet away from James Corden (who I'm not the biggest fan of).  BUT, we didn't discover until Saturday the man next to him the whole night (wearing a face mask) wasn't security, it was Tom Cruise!  So we spent 2.5 hours standing 15 minutes away from Tom Cruise and had no idea.  I'm not the biggest Tom Cruise fan but, hey, he is Hollywood Royalty.

Happy Friday!

1.) Playing a wedding tomorrow. It's outside, so hopefully the weather is on our side [smiley=elf.gif]

2.) Going to a jazz concert tomorrow night - Looking forward to it!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

3.) Chickens decide that 6 am was a great time to let the neighbourhood know they laid some eggs and squawk their heads off. So ran outside in my pyjamas to shush them up!  [smiley=end.gif]

4.) Where did this splinter in my finger come from!!! Ouch!!!!  I can't reach it with tweezers!! Off to find drawing fluid.....  [smiley=help.gif]

5.) Finishing up a very nice cup of coffee....  Yum!  :D

FRIYAY!

1.  I slept in my bed last night!!!  I didn't have to sleep in the recliner.  Yippee for small wins!  Actually a pretty big win.

2.  Back to the quacks in a few minutes as my back still hurts and they said to come back today if it still hurt, so off I go.  I suspect they'll say give it the weekend....  but who knows (kidney infection if you haven't read the covid thread)

3.  CAMPING weekend with friends at a local fabulous country park with forest camping.  We picked this weekend as the days would be long.  Weather looks PERFECTION.  Hoping we can see the stars!!  And they have a splash pad.  Think I'll bring my swimsuit too!

4.  So much to do at work but so little motivation.  Should have requested today off!

5.  Moved money over from the USA.  Exchange rate is 1.19.  Why when I was paid in USD living in the UK was it 1.7/1.8?!?!?  Oh, that's right, I'm going to the USA in a few weeks.  All makes sense now.

BONUS:  BOJO!!!!!!!  FINALLY!!!!!!!!

My Friday Five:

1. Last Friday I said I was due to leave Ascension in 4 days. This Friday, I am still due to leave Ascension in 4 days.

2. The date of my flight home has changed about 7 times in the last week:
It went from 5th July
to
1st July
back to
5th July
to
9th July
to
10th July
to
8th July
to
11th July
to
12th July

3. My flight to Florida is at 10am on 14th July. I can’t change the date without it costing me about £2000, so if I don’t make the flight, all I can hope is that I can claim some of it back on insurance. I probably shouldn’t have booked it, but I didn’t think the flight situation would turn into such an absolute mess (the decision on what the flight would be doing ended up going to ministerial level).

4. I really do want to get to Florida, not just because I’ve been dying to go back for 2.5 years, but because I just found out that my aunt in the US has won a trip to Orlando from 18-25th July and I will be there 14-21st July… and I haven’t seen her in 3 years

5. All of this flight stress is really messing with my mental health. I don’t think I’ve ever been this stressed in my life. For the last few nights I’ve only been getting about 4 hours of sleep, plus I’ve been getting tension headaches and nausea, and I’ve been hormonal too. It came to a head on Wednesday where I basically broke down in front of the nurse and medic, and the nurse was going to try to get me home on a compassionate flight. That ended up not happening, and I’m feeling a bit better now (it was the PMS making things worse) but I’m still rather stressed about getting home!

Ksand I can't even imagine how stressful that is. I truly hope you get home in time to make it Florida, being messed around like that is just awful.

I don't have 5 today, but we are seeing Shaparak Khorsandi tonight and I'm looking forward to it. Mark Watson was in Bracknell two weeks ago and we were the only people wearing masks. I have a feeling that'll be the case again tonight, but at least the venue has said it's fine for me to bring my chair and they'll store it during the show since the accessible seats were sold. Thank goodness for FFP2 masks. They get hot but they work.

I really hope you feel better once you get some certainty. You definitely need a break.  :)

Oh ksand!  Keep us posted!  I really hope next week you are posting (or fogetting to post) FROM FLORIDA!!!!!

My doctors visit was fine.  They are concerned it could be a kidney stone.  I have all sorts of instructions on what to do and when.  Was also told off for not going to A&E last week when touching the area would send me shooting out of my chair.  Ooops.  They said if that happens again - straight to A&E.   :o

If the pain is still there (it's just a constant dull ache) on Monday, I go for a scan to determine if it IS a stone and what the next steps are.  I'm just going to DRINK DRINK DRINK this weekend and hope it shifts naturally - if it is a stone.

Glad you have some FUN planned this weekend AUKY!

So ran outside in my pyjamas to shush them up!  [smiley=end.gif]

How do you shush chickens?  Are they smart enough to know that you want them to make less noise? Enquiring minds want to know!  Did you take the eggs away and eat them?
