Pork recipes?
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:22:24 PM »
Anyone have a favorite pork recipe they'd like to share?  I've been scouring online, but it's just too much to take in.  I'd like something relatively simple; I've never cooked it before (not a huge fan) so I really don't know where to start.

I've done a search and dug through the recipes in the cookbook to no avail.

Help me, Obi Wan!  You're my only hope!!

This is one I have been meaning to try but haven't got around to it yet. Maybe you can let me know how it goes? :)

Pork Roast w/ oranges & cranberries

3-4 lbs pork loin
sal & pepper to taste
1 cup whole cranberry sauce
2 oranges, peeled, seeded & chopped, with juice

Brown pork in 350 broiler for 20 mins.
Put in slow cooker and sprinkle with S&P
Combine cranberry & oranges in a bowl, mix throughly
Pour mixture over pork in slow cooker
Cook on low for 8-10 hrs. If possible, turn meat once or twice.

Are you talking about pork roast or chops or anything in general?

I make fried pork chops and DH loves them.

I just take a dish with flour, add some dried herbs, salt and pepper and stir around a bit
Dip the chops in that and then in a mix of egg and milk and  then back in the flour
Fry in a bit of oil until each side is brown.

Really easy and yummy with mash and gravy.

I've got some recipes at home, I'll have a look and post again.

Yes, anything.

Thanks for those two suggestions.  The cranberry/orange one sound fab!

For a pork roast I'll usually get like an italian dressing and marinade it over night and then just bake it.  That's quite good!

With pork chops, I love baked pork chops, usually with some rosemary or sage sprinkled on to bring out some flavor.  If I'm feeling really ambitious, I'll get like paxo stuffing, and slit the pork chops in half and put some stuffing in it and bake them (I don't use rosemary or sage, only salt and pepper,  if I'm using stuffing, because the sage in the stuffing really makes them yummy)!

Good luck.  I really like pork!

For a pork roast, i sometimes put it in the slow cooker, with a jar of green salsa poured over... cook for 8-10 hours, then shred the pork with a fork and put into flour tortillas with cheese and more green salsa.

I just made this one on Sunday.... yummy...

Pan-Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Pomegranate Molasses

Larger Tescos with a whole foods/ethnic foods section and ethnic shops sell Pomegranate Molasses.

I made it with a nice pork lion.  Even without the reduction it's a nice recipe... I made the spices into a rub and let it sit on the lion for about 8 hours. I added a bit of garlic because I just don't know how not to use garlic.

DH had some colleagues over from work the other night and I had to make something sure fire and easy.  These were AMAZING!!!!   Went to the butcher and picked up 4 pork chops and made this:

I am addicted to Ocado's recipes...they are easy easy easy and I'm no cook!  It's great if you can have your groceries delivered through them because you don't even have to look for the ingredients...just push the button that says "Buy Ingredients" and it puts them all in your trolley.  No thinking and you can plan your dinners for the week.

My favourite - Crispy Belly Pork

Take one pork belly with the rind on. Make up a marinade of equal parts dark soy sauce and honey and add plenty of chopped fresh chillies, garlic, ginger and spring onions. Place belly in a shallow dish rind upwards and pour in marinade into corner of dish until it comes up the sides of the belly as far as the rind, but not actually touching the rind. Cover and refrigerate for 24 hrs. Remove belly from marinade and place over sink on a grille that will allow liquid to drain into sink. Using a very sharp knife, score the rind into 1cm squares deep enough to also score underlying fat, but not into the meat. Pour boiling hot kettle of water slowly all over rind until it whitens. Dry rind thoroughly and rub with chopped chillies and garlic cloves. Rub table salt well into score marks all across rind and then dust off excess salt. Rub rind lightly with peanut oil. Bake in bottom of a low oven for about 1.5 - 2 hours making sure it doesn't burn and basting regularly. For final 15 minutes turn oven to high and put in top of oven and roast until rind is completely crispy and brittle, but not black. Serve! YUM!  [smiley=smart.gif]

I use pork mince for several things - I sometimes substitute it for lamb in shepherd's pie, I've been known to make thai burgers with it (load it up with thai curry paste and chopped green onions). I also do a pork joint for Sunday roast every few weeks but I don't do anything special to it....

Pork is my favorite type of meat, but like Anne, I don't usually do anything special with it. If it's a roast I just put a ton of salt on the fatty part and stick it in the oven. In the US I would even use Shake and Bake in a pinch on pork chops! This rub is also really good:
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp lemon pepper
1/8 tsp salt
1 (1 lb) pork tenderloin (I use it on pork chops as well)

Rub the spice mixture all over the pork and bake it at 425 deg F for 25 minutes.

Pork chops, mustard brushed on them and brown sugar sprinkled on top. Plonk under a low-medium grill, (don't forget to turn them) or on the George Foreman and cook.

Delicious but messy on the cookware! Use foil on the grill or a light coating of oil on the George Foreman for ease of cleaning.

Surely that's breaking some law regarding protected and endangered species!!  :P ;)
