I don't want to even say what we're about to be paying in rent in Reading if everything goes through with our new place, but let's just say it's a good thing we like it a lot because we won't be able to afford any evenings out! I was hoping others were paying something similar to what we will be, but I think we're the ones going a bit overboard. With my darn knee problems limiting us to places without stairs, and our strong desire for the mod cons and some space, we ended up in a high rent bracket. I'm just a bit shocked that we're paying more than some people in London!
That said, we found a huge two bedroom, one full bath and one ensuite apartment on the waterfront in central Reading. Washer/dryer, dishwasher, loads of built in closets and wardrobes, and it's absolutely beautiful. My husband can walk to work, it's right by The Oracle shopping center. This is actually nicer than any apartment I ever lived in in the U.S. (except for maybe the crappy washer/dryer combo unit), and I hadn't thought we'd find anything so nice here. Of course, I hadn't thought we'd find it because I originally wanted to stick to the 900 pound range. We inched up. So now we'll be that odd sort of person that people will think is rich because we have a nice address, but we'll have no money! And yes, I know that's not advisable, and neither me nor my husband has ever lived somewhere that cut so deep into our budget, but we really like this place and are trying to find a way to deal with my knee problems, too, and this central location seems like a good idea as far as me getting around.
