Just out of London, right past the M25 in Essex, we have what they call a duplex. It's a 3rd floor (american 3rd floor) flat that has an upstairs/and downstairs. We pay £712.50 a month. That includes water. Downstairs has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. Upstairs is all open plan with the kitchen/dining/living area. The building is only about 4 years old and we happened to be lucky enough to be the first renters of the place so it was brand new. Landlord let us pick and choose what furnishing we wanted/needed. So that price includes washer/dryer combo, stove, fridge/freezer, couch, dining table/chairs, and beds. We have economy 10 electricity. I like living on the top as I don't have people above me to stomp around and make noise and we can look down on the neighbourhood. The cats love laying right at the foot of the sliding glass doors watching the world pass by! The only stupid thing about it, is that the living area has a sloped ceiling that goes all the way down to the floor which is a total waste of space. We can't even use that side of the wall because nothing will fit. Other than that we are happy. We didn't have any estate agent fees as the ladies who showed us around were only the "management" of the property. This is the first place that I have lived in longer than 2 1/2 years!! We would definately buy it if the landlord wanted to sell. We have seen some of the flats in the complex sell for anywhere between £154,000 - £170,000
