Restaurant rec for first anniversary
« on: February 25, 2007, 12:33:43 AM »
Next month is our first wedding anniversary and we are a bit strapped for cash so a fancy holiday what we had wanted is out of the question.  Since we have to stay here, we'd like to have a nice meal in a swanky restaurant,  you know, the kind you actually have to dress up to go to.  Can anyone recommend any such places in London?  We had our first date at 140 Park Lane which was posh and we are considering it but we'd love to hear other recs.  TIA

June

My boyfriend took me to Acorn House in Kings Cross for my birthday, and it was just fabulous, can't recommend it too highly.

We went to Roussillon for my birthday and it was brilliant...nice and quiet but still friendly and welcoming.  And posh.  Fun night!

If you like Sushi.... NOBU.  The original is fancy and super expensive.  Nobu Berkely is much more trendy and less expensive.  You can still dress up there.

Hi June

This is our favourite choice for a romantic dinner (we've been there four times and love it):

http://www.toptable.co.uk/details.cfm/qs/rid%7C2109/spos%7C1/refid%7Cggl05/

If you wait a few days before booking on toptable (given that their current special offer expires today), they'll probably run another special offer of 3 courses off a set menu plus a glass of champagne for £21.50 each.  Every time we've been, we've been able to book the special offer, they do continue to offer a new one after each expiry date (let's hope this never ceases!)

Our last tab for both of us was only £70, inclusive of a bottle of red and the 12.5% optional service charge, which I thought was well deserved on their part.

Let us know what you decide, and happy anniversary in advance!!

Or, if you want to splash out a bit more, we can also recommend Gordon Ramsay at Claridges and Angela Hartnett at the Connaught.  Both very swanky and sublime service and food!

I was going to say The Ivy, too.
