I'm at Kingston University, in Kingston-upon-Thames (a suburb of London). It's very cosmopolitan - it has a large percentage of international students. There are also quite a few American students here - probably about 100 or so.

I'm at London College - central London, right near Oxford St...sooo crowded just to get to classes every day!  ::)

Am doing web design right now,and have to say, I'm finding it verrry interesting.  I'm obviously interested in computery type things ;), so even though I don't necessarily want to do web design for a future career, it's good info for me to know.

Forgot to add... ::)  It's also a multi-national place, with a large percentage of South Africans, incedentally (sp?).

All in all, I'm definitely enjoying it.  ;D

can anyone provide me more info about U of Brighton? I am applying for a Ph D studentship there? Do they have good reputation for research? ( i am applying for the management and information science department Ph D program). How high is the cost of living there? I would appreciate any information or any contact. Thanks!

Hi.  Probably shouldn't be posting in here, because I'm technically finished my studies now, but I think I'm a professional student for the rest of my life!   ;D

I was studying at St Andrews University for a PhD, in Ancient Greek Tragedy.  I have just recently finished the corrections to my thesis (now an MPhil - long story, ask me sometime!), and have finally resubmitted.  Now, I wait to hear whether I got my degree or not.

So... anyone need any reference books in Greek Literature?  I've got dozens... at reasonable prices!  LOL  ;) :o ::)

I am a Sophomore-Junior (Junior by the end of this semester argh!) at the University of Minnesota.

http://www1.umn.edu/twincities/index.php

I am earning a double degree in Political Science (International Relations/Politics) and "Global Studies" in the area of Peace, Governance and Justice focusing on South Asia
[smiley=thinking.gif]--which basically means I research and study social and Political trends, movements, colonial history, all with a crazy theoretical twist! [smiley=smart.gif] I also have a minor in Asian languages and Literatures: Hindi Language.

These days I am looking forward most to a Human rights internship I will start next semester--hopefully at the American Refugee commission.

As my little tag says, I hope to earn a MA at the Uni of London-School of Oriental and African studies (aka my dream school!) quite soon (college is going so fast!) I am not sure in what area--perhaps a LLM? or "Asian politics."---suggestions always welcomed!

Joseph: My friend Prashant, graduated from Kingston upon Thames last year! :)

Morgana: best of luck finishing you MPhil---best of luck especially with your "viva" (defence) which I assume must be coming up soon. By the way, after my MA I am considering going on to Study law in the UK (immigration/Ayslum/international law) does St. Andrews have a law school/programme? I have heard good things about the poli sci dept... .

cheers everyone,

Samantha***

Denalyia: the college you study at, London College, is that a vocational school? The reason I ask is I am **terribly** interested in moving to London, and am currently enrolled at home at an Art Institute going for a degree in Graphic Design.  I am curious of your school is along the same line, or is it a traditional four year university?  :)  If your school *is* a design school, how do you like it? Do you think it worth my looking into???

AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!  Samantha, if you value your sanity, don't go to St Andrews!!!

There isn't a law program there, to the best of my knowledge, although the university is internationally recognized for its Terrorism research department.  As for poli sci there, not sure about that either.  But I will caution you greatly about going there.

It is a very small town, based on golf and the university.  Hence, rent is verrrry expensive, and there is a lot of resentment towards the students.  Not a pleasant place to live.  Unless you enjoy 24-hour drinking and nightly dinner parties thrown by twenty-somethings pretending to be adults, all the while using Daddy's credit card.

It is an hour away from Edinburgh by train, and has very few modern conveniences. There is one cinema, about forty pubs, no laser tag, no bowling alley (unless you count lawn bowling) and no fast food of any sort, except crap pizza.  The only sport in town is baiting RAF guys (who are idiots, are generally none of them are actual pilots. I got hit on by a guy who PAINTS the planes!!!)

I'll tell you about my department in private - just send me message if you're interested.

In general, I'd say pick a few universities in the UK, and make plans to go visit them, check out the area and the people in the department, before you decide.  St Andrews is lovely... in the day time...  I might be able to hook you up with a decent place to live, if you're still interested.  (It was the flat I had there, and it was lovely!  Cheap and all to myself!)

Keep your options open, and be honest about your own personality.  I thought I could live in a tiny town without owning a car, and still maintain my sanity.  I was wrong.

As for the MPhil - thankfully, the examiners have decided that a viva is unnecessary, so I don't have to suffer that ignominy either.   *whew*

Hope all is well with your studies!  Sorry it took so long for me to reply!  If you have any other questions, just let me know!  ;)

I know a handful of researchers/profs at both. All are very well respected in our field.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.
