Beans On Toast
« on: March 04, 2007, 06:00:56 PM »
I'm sure this topic has been covered but I didn't find it so I'm starting a new one. My Dh had beans on toast for a mid afternoon snack, to me that just looked gross. I myself couldn't grasp the concept who wants to eat soggy toast with baked beans on it.  ::)  [smiley=bleck.gif]  I like baked beans but only Branston baked beans though. they are the only baked beans that come close to the baked beans back home I liked. yes I have tried the other kinds of baked beans & I didn't like them.

what are everyone else's opinion's on this topic?

I like beans on toast! It's better with some melted cheese on it as well.  ;D

I don't mind the toast part, but I can't deal with beans in tomato sauce.

Its the boys comfort food!

I like it sometimes, and discovered Nomato Baked Beans recently.  Some tomato sauces bother me, like most in baked beans.  Really liked this sauce, but have to trek over to Fresh & Wild to buy them!

Depends on the day really. Sometimes I'm really in the mood for it, and sometimes it's totally unappealing. And I agree with Courtney, like most things it's better with cheese!

Just had Branston beans for the first time yesterday, and definitely preferred them to Heinz. I don't really compare British baked beans and American baked beans...they are totally different things in my mind and serve totally different purposes...breakfast and snacks here in the UK and for cookouts back in the US. I do have a craving for some nice US-style baked beans right now.

I like them occasionally - with lots of worcester sauce on them.  What makes the Branston beans different from Heinz?

I had it a few times. It wasnt bad but not something I would ever crave. It's usually the type of food we would have when the cupboard is bare and we're too lazy to go for a shop!

I think the Branston sauce is thicker & a little sweeter than the Heinz brand but thats just my opinion though.

The only time I really had baked beans back home usually was at a family function or a barbecue.

I didn't like beans on toast when I first moved here.  But they grew on me, and now I like them (same thing with brussel sprouts also).  I like mine best with some cheese on top too.  From time to time, DH likes to smear a little Marmite on his toast as well, before putting the beans on.  But I don't do Marmite.  We usually have beans on toast for lunch about every other weekend or so.

Beans on toast rocks!! It's such a good, quick, easy, cheap and nutritious meal. Not to mention delicious. And, shugga, I know you're doing WW, so you should know that even using regular (non-WW) bread, it'll only be 4.5 points (2 slices of brown bread and a small tin of baked beans). That's a great lunch and will keep your energy up until suppertime.

totally! on those lazy days I eat it straight from the can! when I told people that they thought that was unappealing... as if you HAD to heat them only. it reminds me of camping!!

it's not for me. But that's because I really, really hate baked beans- always have.
