We have to ship Heinz Beans to my sister in law in Canada as she loves them so much and insists the North American beans just aren't as good!  Makes the parcels really heavy!!!

I can tell you DH likes his beans on toast, but he really likes my version of BBQ baked beans.  And the ribs too... ;D

BTW, English baked beans are more like our Pork'n'Beans than the baked beans...and a Brit on my other forum asked some time ago why their beans are even called baked beans and said 'it must've been named by an american', then I went on to explain that our beans ARE baked and that these ones are nothing more than pork'n'beans without the chunks of pork!

totally!!  ;D I remember the first time I opened a can of Heinz and tried to remove the chunk of fat inside. Hmm, there wasn't any.  ;)

The American baked beans I am used to are sweeter and baked with brown sugar or syrup rather than tomato sauce. Mmm, Bush's Baked Beans.

I hear you on the Bush's baked beans Mmmmm. I miss the Bush's baked beans commercials how funny were those, with the dog trying to sell the family secret recipe lol.

My recipe is fairly ad hoc so it won't be the same every time, but usually includes:  Heinz baked beans (since you can't get pork-n-beans here), chopped onion, brown sugar, chopped bacon, mustard, salt & pepper -- I usually chuck in some ketchup or BBQ sauce.  I think it's better to bake them (I use a Pyrex casserole) at a lower heat for a longer period of time, and you kind of have to adjust it depending on if you like your baked beans to be on the drier or soupier side.

DH thought these were just the best ever!  Definitely puts plain ole beans on toast to shame, anyway - no matter how tasty & comforting they may be.

He especially liked them when I made BBQ ribs to go with them (dry spice rub + BBQ sauce).  My in-laws also loved my baked beans, but I had to leave the bacon out (for MIL).
