Quarantine Farms in South East

My doggy is in a quaratine farm in the south east and they are actually very good to him. Taking really good care of him... Heard there are a few other doggies from USA coming soon and wasnt sure if they belonged to any of you?  If so I know this is crazy but thought maybe we could meet up on visiting day if u wanted as we all need support coming into the country and one can never have too many friends...even doggies

Oh thats so sad you had to put your doggy in quarantine!  Hope its not for too long and you get to visit often.

Britain has a ridiculous six-month quarantine period for any animals that aren't from the EU. That's what prevented me from bringing my cat over seven years ago. He's since died, and I can't help but resent the British government for time lost.

I would be upset as well. Why do they still do this quarantine? It doesn't seem to make sense to me. We don't do that for people coming into the US and there are no strange, massive spreads of tropical puppy diseases.

It's not as if the U.S. is some Third World country against whom Britain needs to protect its animals. The whole issue makes me furious.

Agreed, and I totally understand. I would be heartbroken if I had to part with a pet because it was denied entry. They are family members, and missed just as much as people-relatives!

I always assumed it was more of a rabies issue.  Since they don't have it and don't want it. 

There was a case a few years ago where a UK resident took his dog to France on the ferry, the dog didn'e set a paw on French soil, yet was under quarantine for 6 months. 

You can't take a pet to another country without a vet's certifying that it's had shots for everything, including rabies. The Brits know that. It's just a little power game that they play.

I always wondered why the UK was so OTT about rabies but last week I saw a clip on the BBC about how bad it was in Europe back in the 70's/80's (excluding the UK).....it was REALLY bad, I was shocked, especially in the eastern European areas.

Anyway the BBC story talked about the possibility of the UK relaxing the rules since the rabies issue in Europe has subsided.
