The Whole Foods in London Thread
« on: March 18, 2007, 10:47:55 PM »
I was just on the Whole Foods website looking for a location for a friend and noticed that they are opening up an 80,000 square foot store in Kensington this summer.

I know its almost blasphemous to say I miss Whole Foods when we have such great local markets.  It will be interesting to see how it fares in London.

They already own Fresh & Wild, so I think they know what they'll be doing in London! I'm rather jealous that there isn't one (either F&W or WholeFoods) in Wales.  :(

This is very exciting news.  Whole Foods has a lot of private label products that you can't find anywhere else, like their Adriatric Fig Spread which goes amazingly with Brie Cheese!

I'm excited to try it...its right by my work.  I never was able to try it in the States, just before I moved one was being built but I left before it was completed.

I hear their peanut butter is nice...freshly ground? Sounds fabulous!

I'm sure it will do very well in Kensington. I was down in South Kensington for a job interview last week, and it seemed like everybody in the vicinity was American.

There are LOADS of Americans in Kensington, so you are right, they will be the loyal customers there.

I used to love Whole Foods in Atlanta...  they carried some local produce as well... and the peanut butter was yummy.. they did a honey roasted one too..

One nice thing was going around having a nosh of all the samples they put out, plus they had a great butcher with to die for bacon and sausages as well as DH's back bacon and lovely fish too!

We used to drive 45 minutes just to get to one as they one in our area closed due to lack of business they said.  Pricey though!

Between that and the Dekalb Farmers Market life was decent food wise.

I'd be curious to see what they do here in the UK.

My office is in Kensington.  Woohoo!

I hope they do the samples too.  It's basically a free lunch  ;)

We had a Whole Foods down the road from work in Texas.  I used to go there all the time at lunch for soup (and samples).  They do gorgeous salads and ready to go foods.

I'm hoping they carry some of the 365 products... my DH loves the 365 Cherry soda.

I'm interested to see if they have a big bulk bin section like they do in most of the other stores.  I miss bulk bin buying, because I usually just want a little bit of lots of different things. ;)  Maybe they'll carry wasabi peas!

Unfortunately we don't live anywhere near Kensington at the moment, so I think I'll have to catch the Megatrain to London some Saturday to check it out.  I am definitely excited though.  It will soothe the occasional homesickness.

Interesting... sometimes I just get totally overwhelmed by food issues. :P
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I hope the London store does well because it would be nice to see others pop up around the country. In the meantime I will stick with my lovely local Waitrose!  ;)

On the Trader Joe's front, maybe we can start a petition???
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
