naples, sorrento, amalfi region recommendations...
« on: March 22, 2007, 11:32:34 AM »
We're heading off next week for 5 days. No more than 2 in Naples and the rest based out of Sorrento. We won't have a car so relying on public transport.

Any recommendations? Must see places? Cheap eats (we are on a major budget of course!)?

TIA!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Ravello.
Ravello.
Ravello.

A li'l piece of Heaven.
Gorgeous little town on the hillside of the Amalfi coast; very close to Sorrento.
I can't remember the name of it; but my family has stayed at a gorgeous renovated villa/hotel right next door to Gore Vidal's home there... amazing views... maybe a good place for a lunch or coffee...?
But definitely a lovely town to just have a stroll/drive through.

I second Ravello!  Positano is also very nice.  If you can, try to take a ferry into Capri from Sorrento.  You can do a daytrip and it's fantastic. Procida is also great and less crowded than Capri.

I wish I was still living in Naples, I'd take you some a really good, really authentic Neapolitan restaurant that I LOVE.  Too bad it's in the boonies and you do need a car!

Gosh, I miss Italy  :\\\'(
