Moving items when visiting
« on: March 22, 2007, 11:21:21 PM »
I know people have moved some things when visiting and left them to come back. How about doing the reverse? My boyfriend is moving over here for a year and I'm visiting him in April. I might be bringing some of his things back with me.

Would I have to claim them through customs? It wouldn't be anything I have bought, just his stuff. I'm just not sure about the record keeping for the airlines. I know they weigh the luggage, but do they track it and would anything be said if I came back with more than I went over with?

I think you'll be fine, especially since you are bringing things back with you. I'm not sure about declaring the items - my gut is to say it's not necessary since you didn't purchase them. If you do get searched after you have gone through customs and collected your luggage, just be honest if they ask any questions.

I brought two huge suitcases of things to the UK and came back with one half full suitcase and one empty one - nothing was ever said to me and I really doubt the airlines keep track of luggage weights. I think it will be ok! Good luck!
Wed at last on April 20th!

Thank you! The FAA wants so much information nowadays that you never know what they're tracking, but I know you've been doing this recently so I think we'll give it a shot. Since I'm moving back with him in a year, maybe I'll talk to my  boyfriend about me leaving some things in his room at his parents that I won't likely use between now and then...
