Hello from Poole
« on: February 23, 2004, 11:22:26 PM »
Hello all,  I am from Pennsylvania, just south of Philadelphia and have been living in Poole since August 2003.  My hubby is Welsh.  I lived in the UK with him in Lancashire from 87-89, then we moved back to my home town in PA. He got a job and settled in there with me.  He retired in June and we always said we'd come back at retirement, but we never really discussed if it would be his or mine.  The company I work for has an office here in Poole, so I applied for a vacancy here and got the job - and here we are!  I love living in the UK but am finding it hard to make British friends here in Dorset.  I have friends in Lancashire, the Midlands, Liverpool, Peterborough and an uncle in the Lake District but the only British friends I have here are the husbands of other American Expats that I've met.  I like exploring my surroundings, Charles Dickens, walking and reading.  There seems to be a lot of PA people on this forum.  I'd love to hered from them and any one else, especially anyone from the Dorset area or Lancashire or Charles Dickens fans.

Hi Phillygirl and welcome to UKY. I am not there yet so no where near Dorset and not from PA but heck I'd thought I'd say hi anyways.  I have a friend in Pa does that count? ;)

I do enjoy a bit of Dickens and my husband is a Thomas Hardy fan.  Actually he's just an Eglish lit fan fullstop.

I hope you find this little corner of the net friendly and I hope to read more of you in the future!

Hi to both of you and thanks for the welcome.  A Thomas Hardy fan would love Dorset- this is Hardy country!  Casterbridge is Dorchester and Thomas Hardy's home is here.  Hope you will someday get a chance to visit this area.

Welcome phillygirl from another Philly girl!  ;D I'm not really familiar with the area south of Philly but I had a co-worker from Kennett Square and a friend from Secane.  :-/

Are you missing soft pretzels and cheesesteaks yet?  :'(

Hi and Thanks to all who responded to my first post.  I don't know exactly where Cafe Obscura is, and I work all weekdays but I'd love to catch up with anyone who can do it on a weekend.
I was in Baiter park on Thursday for lunch as I work nearby.  I agree its very nice there, tebs.
Hey, Kennett Square, the Mushroom capital of the world!  Lots of antique shops and of course the beautiful Longwood Gardens.  Cheesesteaks and pretzels are something I thought I'd miss but I've been back twice since August and haven't had either yet!  I guess I don't miss them all that much even though I ate a lot of cheesesteaks when I was living there!  I enjoy this website.  I'll hang around a while I guess!
