Breakfast in Bristol
« on: March 25, 2007, 07:22:04 PM »
I read a fantastic review of a cafe in Bristol called Rocatillo's - voted the best breakfast in the UK by the Observer food magazine.

It said they have huge breakfasts with an 'American feel'... including something called Ten Gallon Tex's Serious Fry-up, which includes steak, apparently!

They also do ice-cream milkshakes using Ben & Jerry's Phish Food  or Cookie Dough ice cream.

You lucky Bristol folk!!

YUM!!!!  I'm going to tell my friend who lives in Bristol.  I think I will be going to visit next month, maybe we will go.  We will be having Mexican and Sushi on the trip as well.

I'm in Bristol, so I might have to check it out too - I just looked up where the cafe is and it turns out it's about 2 minutes walk from my department at the unviersity - on the same road in fact (although I've never actually seen it)!

Hmmm... might have to try that one day when we go up there for our Costco run!

My friend went this weekend.  She was disappointed.  :( She wanted pancakes and they didn't have them.

Hmmm....good to know. I was thinking about checking this out one morning. How can you have a place with American-feel, but no pancakes!?   :o

Where is a Costco near Bristol?

I've heard of this restaurant, but haven't tried it - I might now...

I was wondering that too, since I've lived in Bristol for pretty much my my whole life (minus my university years) and I have never seen or heard of a Costco here - so I looked it up online... There is one in Avonmouth (St. Brendans Way) - junction 18 off the M5, just off the Portway.

That article also raved about Smith of Smithfields in London for big american breakfasts with pancakes and waffles and open on weekends. Think it's a John Torrode restaurant.... 67 Charterhouse, Farrington tube stop.

Oh my gosh! I used to live off junction 19 and I never knew that!! Might be worth a trip over tomorrow if they're open!

edited to add: it says it's only open to trade customers - not the general public..nothing on their website about getting a membership any other way...bummer.

We went last summer.  It's where I found my Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake batter and big container of Skippy Creamy!  ;D

There are loads of threads on here about what you need to qualify to get a membership. It's not just 'to trade'. I have a membership because I work in the insurance industry. My husband also qualifies because he works in education.
