Final Potter book jacket unveiled

Quote
The world's most famous wizard is seen lunging over a pile of treasure in the cover of the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series.
Potter's best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, also feature on the children's edition of the book, which was unveiled by publishers Bloomsbury.

The adult version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows shows a pendant embossed with a jewel-encrusted 'S'.

Author JK Rowling's previous six Potter novels have sold 325 million copies.

'Impossible task'

The writer had always planned seven books, each following the characters for one school year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Rowling has revealed that two characters die in the final book, prompting bookmakers to take bets on whether Potter could be one of them.

But the text on the book covers gives nothing away.

"Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task," reads the back of the adult version.

"He must leave the warmth, safety and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear the inexorable path laid out for him."

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is due to be released on 21 July.

The illustration for the children’s edition is by Jason Cockcroft, who drew the previous two Harry Potter book covers. The adult design is from a photograph by Michael Wildsmith, who has photographed all the adult edition jackets.

Very cool!! I have always liked the kids version covers, but I really like the adult version one better this time.

I'm so excited! I don't know if I like the US cover, though. It doesn't give too much of a dramatic scene. Though you could argue that none of the US covers really do... I can't wait for the book!

I'm not a big fan of the US cover either, not as interesting as it usually is...

Hmm... on the US cover Harry's wearing a little pouch around his neck.  Wonder what's in it.

I never knew that there were different adult covers! I've only ever seen (or bought) the children's ones.

I like the US cover better.  The UK ones I've never liked...this one is way too cartoonish, but the adult cover is good.

I always take the covers off because I find them annoying.

My HP books are all hardback because I'm one of those tragedies who pre-orders so I get the book on the release date.

This year, I'll be queuing up to pick up my copy at the midnight release at Waterstone's!

Rumour has it JK will be signing at this one, as it's easiest to secure.

Let's hope so!

That'd be SOOOO cool!

Me too. I pre-ordered mine ages ago! But our little bookshop never has a big rush, so there's no queue-ing up on the day. I just go in and collect it. I can live without it at midnight and wait until 9am.

A signed copy ... now, that would be cool!  ;D

I pre-ordered mine the same day they announced the publication date.  The only bummer is that I buy the British version, so I have to wait about a week for it to get here. :(

Expat, I'm so jealous!  I hope you get to meet her - that would be soooo cool!!!

I've pre-ordered the last three books, I didn't start reading until after The Goblet of Fire was released. Get a savings and get to make sure to have a copy, win-win!

Although the last book came out when I was in DC visiting an ex. I had severed delays at the airport and ended up buying Half-Blood Prince at the airport, didn't get my savings but had half the book read by the time I got back to Boston!  :o

Andrew's already making fun of me, telling me, 'Oh, you'll be one of those saddos on TV, all queued up for donks, gushing, 'This is so exciting!''

I can think of worse ways to spend a weekend night.  :D

My boss is coming, too.  We don't care if people think we're goofballs, we'll have plenty of company.

DH thinks I'm nuts for it too, but sadly I have no HP friends around here so I'll be line all on my lonesome ::)
