Very ill!

I've become seriously ill while living in Glasgow.  Have been in and out of the hospital several times with the inability to eat or drink water.  Finally, on my last visit to the hospital they told me that I probably have ulcers but were not able to get me on the list for an endoscopy till the 27th of April.  (They also did other tests which came out negative.)  Meanwhile, they sent me home, still unable to eat or drink basically telling me that I can treat myself at home just as well as they can treat me in the hospital. I was also given a lecture about suggesting different tests that they might do to find the root of my problem.  I work in healthcare so I am aware of what symptoms such as mine might mean.)

 I am very ill now, and very weak.  I can hardly walk across the room.  I tried to catch my flight to fly home yesterday, but I was too sick and weak so I had the taxi driver bring me back from the station. (I have to take the train to Edinburgh cuz I am flying Delta which flys out of Edinburgh.) I have a doctor waiting for my arrival and will be immediately admitted to the hospital in the US.

Has anyone ever gone through a situation as this?  I feel I need an emergency evacuation home.  I called the embassy but that is only done if I have health insurance. 

Any suggestions, or comments would be greatly appreciated.  I am afraid that if this is an ulcer, it will perferate and I will die here.

My visa expires May 1st.  I don't have health insurance. 

If you are so ill that you can't even get to the airport I think I would go to the nearest A&E if I were you....

Absolutely, go to the hospital!

I was in the hospital with these symptoms from March 15 to the 23rd.  I was sent home on the 23rd because my labs and x-rays did not show anything.  Then I went back in on April 1st and was sent home on the 2nd...same reason, but still unable to eat or drink.  Each time I was given fluids for dehydration.  Before this I went to emergency 3 different times, always sent home because my labs and x-rays were normal.  Now it is suggested I treat myself at home till my endoscopy on April 27th.  I even begged the doctors and emergency room physicians not to send me home.  Thank you for your replies. 

call an ambulance...if I were on my own, that's what I would do....

You could try phoning NHS Direct Scotland, I bet they will send an ambulance right over. The number is 08454 24 24 24.

when you say you don't have health insurance do you mean private health insurance? and if so, do you mean UK or US health insurance?

He means US insurance - he wants to be re-patriated by the US Embassy because of health reasons but the Embassy won't do it as he doesn't have US insurance (they'd want to be paid back for this I suspect). UK private health insurance companies do offer 'travel' insurance or 'world wide cover' but I suspect they would not pay to send you to a country you intended to remain in - but that's hard to know - it's an unusual situation.

The OP has had a very poor experience. I hope we get an update soon.

I would also assume travel insurance wouldn't pay for existing problems. I would think him going to a doctor and them suspecting its an ulcer would be enough for travel insurance to be void.
