Do I need to pay import taxes?

Hi all,

This question is actually on behalf of my fiance. He's currently living in Atlanta, Georgia and is hoping to move over to Wakefield by the end of the year (depending on visas and all!!!) and of course has lots of stuff he needs to bring with him.
The thing is, we're not sure if he's best shipping everything over in one go or should he post a few bits and pieces over at a time?
If he ships everything over in one go, will he need to pay import taxes?

I move all my house here in UK last year and I did not pay any taxes. Everything should be 6 months old, and you cannot sell your used car after 6 months.
