Returning to England
« on: February 26, 2004, 05:57:54 AM »
Hello all :)

Just thought I would properly introduce myself.

My name is Jenny and as my UKY name would indicate, I previously lived in Berkshire.

For many reasons, my husband and I decided to move over to the USA to settle. With the job market in the toilet,it turns out that it wasn't the best move to make at the time. It seems everyone could have told us this and some did try, but we had to try for ourselves. Anyway, we are heading back to England with our spirits a little down, but with more of a hope for the future and the peace of mind of knowing that it is England for good this time.

I cannot say where we will end up in England. We are looking at a few places, and so many on here have already been so helpful giving their opinions on where we might look. Of course, we have our preferences, but a lot will be determined by where we find jobs.

I am originally from Mississippi and hubby is from Bristol. We will initially be living in Bristol with his parents until we get back on our feet.

I look forward to getting to know more of you here on UKY. :)

Jenny

Hi Jenny!
Great to read your *formal* introduction!!! Pick those spirits up girl! This will be a great support system for you before and after your move. Bristol is not far from where I live now. I will be moving back to California early summer.
Take care

Well at least you already know what you're getting yourself into, right!?  :)

There are several people here with stories about making a move to another place in the UK making all the difference to how they felt about life here.  I'm sure you'll find somewhere great.  At least you'll have some time to look around while you're in Bristol with his parents.

I hope the preparations are going well, and I hope you're enjoying UKY.  We're glad to have you here!  :)

Hi Jenny and welcome and thanks for stopping by.  As I said before I can empathized with the redneck hell, though ATL is hardly the worse place to be.

It's nice to know that for a sort while you will be in my future neck of the woods.

I wish you all the best in your plans to move to the UK.

Hi and welcome.  Hope that all comes together with your move.  When do you plan to come over?

Hi Kat, :)

We are leaving Monday  :o

Packing tomorrow. Yikes! We have so much more to go back with than what we brought over.

My stomach is already turning cartwheels with anxiety about moving back and starting over.

Hi Jenny... I remember you from the other expats site.  Didn't you only just move back to the States?  Like 3 or 4 months ago?   And now you're coming back to the UK again!

Sorry if i've got it wrong, but whatever your reasons, I dont blame you.  You couldnt pay me enough to move back to the States, so i hope it all works out for you this time!  :)

Hey Jenny!

Do you know what part you guys are moving to? Have you decided on Yorkshire? (it's the hippest county in England, after all.  ;) )

Hi Broxi!!

Yes, you are correct. We only just moved over here in December. It has only taken us this long to figure out that it would take a huge amount of effort to make things work over here. With the job market so sour, and hubby not having qualifications over here that would allow him to find a good job, it is the career thing that is forcing its hand for our return. Really that's it. We knew it would be difficult, but neither of us was prepared for the reality check that followed the move. He was given honest feedback that if he did not match what employers were looking for to the "T", then he did not have a chance in hell in finding work suitable for him. It has been disappointing to say the least. Of course, questions have been answered and we now can move back knowing that England is where we will settle for good. Thanks for asking Broxi, :)

Hi Ashley, :)

We don't know yet. Hubby has one interview scheduled for Friday of next week, and that is in Kent. We have desperately been looking up north for opps, but the hiring in the Personal Injury field seems to be more in the SE at the moment. Believe me, his CV has gone to all of the PI firms in Leeds and York and surrounding areas. Fingers crosssed an opp will pop up soon. :)
