Pound Sterling surpasses $2 mark
« on: April 17, 2007, 10:24:19 AM »
Just been watching BBC News 24 and they just had a report on stating the pound has surpassed the $2 mark.  THough at the moment XE isn't reflecting it but VERY close. Time to move some money around, I think!  :)

The numbers on XE are rising as we speak- it's at 1.99806 right now, and I don't doubt it'll go over $2 very soon.

Sigh...good news for my US student loan debt when I eventually have to repay it, but bad news since I have to keep living off my student loan for a while and a lot of it is still in my US bank.

Definitely time to start earning money in pounds...

You are not the only ones.  We moved some over in 2005 but have been waiting for a better rate.  Looks like we will be waiting a while longer.

I'm going to ring my old US bank later this week to check to find out if my account is still open (I essentially abandoned it 4 years ago) and dh and I are going to start transfering money into it for student loan payments and our next holiday. Hoorah!

I'm happy about this as well -- will get my student loan paid off in a total of a year and half if this holds up!   ;D

I'm trying to think back to the last time that the rate was over $2 to £1.   I reckon it must have been around the late 1980s.

Many, many years ago the exchange rate was around $4 = £1.  It even led to the old half-crown coin being nicknamed "half a dollar," since at that time it was indeed equivalent to approx. 50 cents.
