Advocacy Volunteers?
« on: April 18, 2007, 12:59:19 PM »
This was posted in the Announcement thread, but I thought I'd drop it in here as well to make sure as many people as possible see this:

Leah has been kind enough to set aside the advocacy board as you may already be aware. I've split the different advocacy issues into different threads so you may express your interest or concern for those items.  Please take a look and if you have the desire and time to committ to any of these, post in the appropriate thread.

You don't have to be an expert to contribute. Ideally, if there is one area in particular that interests you, and you'd be willing to volunteer some time and effort and coordinate with others interested in the same thread that would the way we could take this forward.

The Advocacy Board can be found in the restricted area, just under Pettifog. Here is a link to the main page:
http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?board=71.0
Leah has made this board similar to Pettifog in terms of the restriction on posting until you have a certain number of posts.

As of today, these are the projects that have been broken out for volunteers:
The Borders Bill
Removal at Immigration relating to long distance/internet relationships
Fees
Life in the UK test
Biometrics
Accessibility and clarity of documents and forms
Abtran/CSC service
Consultations
Press Releases
The Agenda for UK-Y's advocacy

There may be other issues that you feel would be helpful to address, so there will be another thread in the Advocacy Board for new suggestions.

Volunteers are needed. The fees issue garnered alot of attention, and it still will, but there are other items that are just as important, now and in the future. Please consider volunteering time or input.

Any chance of making this a sticky post?  I'm worried that it will have slid down the board by the time I can actually participate.  ;)

I volunteer for Press Releases since I am doing that at the moment.  I would be happy to help with anything else as well, please just ask!

Ok, maybe it was just a glitch then. I thought it was neophyte to see and post in the restricted area. Glad it's working now.

Just wanted to bump this up again. The advocacy area is coming along but volunteers are needed. If you feel there is anything you'd be willing to do, please have a look at the advocacy board.

The initial projects suggested are separated out into individual threads for comment and volunteers.

Tristessa, I'd be very interested in volunteering when I know a bit more and am less likely to be dangerous because of the small bits of knowledge I do have.  I'm a writer, have been an editor, and was also a SAG/AFTRA actress.  I have access to various bits of equipment.  If there's anything I can do that doesn't require actual knowledge at this point, I'd be happy to pay back a bit.
