fiancee visa--applying in person (NYC)
« on: April 20, 2007, 11:08:38 AM »
Hi everyone.  I just registered and introduced myself after hours of reading  old posts and getting loads of good info.

Here's my question (I apologize if it has been asked before) which I haven't seen an answer to yet:

To make an appointment at the NYC consulate for a fiancee visa--do I just call them and make the appointment? (can someone give me that phone number?) How quickly does one usually get an appointment?

I'm currently in the UK and will return home in August to get my fiancee visa and the rest of the documents I need, etc.  I want to book my flight back to the UK as soon as I can (to get a good price on the flight) and need to know how much time I'll need to get the visa done.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry everyone.  I see now after more research that I apply online at the UkVisas site. After that I then am notified by email about an appointment in person.

Should I wait until the end of July to fill out the application then since I won't be home til the first week in August?

I just got my marriage visa today from my appointment.  I applied about three weeks beforehand, but they were opening days about one week to three days ahead of time.

Thanks for your reply bookgrl, but I don't quite understand.  Do you mean you could have had an appointment as early as 3 days to one week after sending the application in by email?

Yes, you can get them that early.

I did one recently - e-mailed form on Saturday morning, interview was Thursday, visa was approved there and then.

Things must change so much! In 1999 my husband and I got married, the next day we went into NYC for lunch, popped over to the British Embassy, said, hey we want to go live in the UK together, he said sure thing, give me your passport and come back in 4 hours, we went and saw a movie and when we came back, I had the stamp in my passport!

So now you have to make an appointment? Man, things were so easy in the 20th Century!!!!

Up until 1992 or so, the spouse and partner just showed up at the airport and showed their marriage license to the IO and got 2 years FLR.

Hey, Andee, are you going to go back to Philly before leaving?  We should arrange to have a big ceili and session before you go back to the UK! ;D

Oh...Hi!!  he he! I'd love that, but most likely won't be back in the U.S. for more time than it takes to get that fiancee visa!
