Cheap flights needed and I can't find any....
« on: April 21, 2007, 04:04:36 PM »
I am looking for some really really cheap flights to Atlanta Georgia (tall order I know - sorry)....my dates are fixed in August due to work and school holidays - which is making it harder.
I have looked on loads and loads of sites and thought my look had come in last Monday when I found some from London Heathrow for an avg of £286 pp, but because I'm saving as I go along I couldn't get them there and then...now I have that money the flights are no longer that price....just my flipping luck!!!  :\\\'(
I am staying positive and am looking every day but they seem to be going up, not down or even staying at a fixed price!!! I will add at this point the world of travel is all new to me, I hadn't quite expected the price to fluctuate so much.
Luckily as the weeks go along my money is going up, but I would still prefer to get them as cheap as possible.
Any site recommendations would be fab because I'm sending myself cross eyed. I won't list all the places I've already looked simply because I can't remember them all...there has to be somewhere I haven't already looked that you can tell me about!

Thanks
Vicky

I hope you have tried Priceline. You can make an offer for the price of the ticket but be careful because once your bid is excepted, its a done deal and their is no backing out. If you can't use the ticket you have to write it off and kiss your money goodbuy.

I always book my car hire with them, they are always cheaper than Holiday Autos and the like.
They are the retail site for a company called Gold Medal..which I used ALOT when I was working in the travel agencies....I booked Aimiloo's Thailand holiday with them so they are a sound company to use!!!!

Check out flyzoom.com.  They are doing a new route starting June 21 from Gatwick to JFK.  From JFK you can fly to Atlanta for hopefully a relatively cheap fare.
They have flights one way from £39.50, although the return journeys appear to start at £64.50.  I think it works out around £250 round trip all taxes and fees inclusive.

I just saw an ad in the paper yesterday and there was an asterisk next to "From 21 June" and then on the bottom it said Subject to Gov't Approval  :o

The flights are running if you're originating at Gatwick.  The original post was about getting to the States, specifically Atlanta, so the 21 June start time holds true.  The US DOT for some reason has not signed off on the route for Americans flying out of JFK but I imagine this will probably come through at some point later in the summer or the year.

usuk2004 I certainly am going at the wrong time of yr and it's making it all the harder to find the cheap flights!!! So far I have found if I were to travel 4 days later I could get the tickets almost £200 cheaper, but the dates I'm going just can't be changed... :\\\'(

Thanks Matt, I've checked out flyzoom.com and I can get from London Gatwick to JFK and back saving me over £500....still have the to and from Atlanta issue, but I've just saved £500 so I'm sure I'll find a way!!!!

Info for all; statravel won't allow you to book a flight to North America from outside America and priceline states your take off destination has to be from America...but thankyou anyway all help much appreciated!!!  ;D

For some reason the 1st time I tried Sta travel it brought up the above - me being me I've checked again....this time it's stating my children are too young to fly with them - they have to be over 12, mine are 9 and 10!!!

VJ,
The only problem you may have is the cost of the JFK to Atlanta flight.  It may be that because there are 4 of you the cost could run into the high hundreds of dollars which may negate the Gatwick to JFK leg.  I found the same problem as I'm going to Baltimore and Delta was the only carrier that flew to Baltimore direct in the late afternoon/early evening, it was something like $700 RT for the 2 of us and our baby!
Fortunately, getting to Baltimore from New York on Amtrak is very easy so we're going to do that for only $300 RT.  Atlanta unfortunately is quite a bit further south.
