Chip and pin in France?
« on: April 27, 2007, 11:26:21 AM »
Does anyone know if they use the chip and pin system in France? The credit card I plan on using in Paris next month doesn't swipe well. I've had it replaced and still have problems with it swiping however with chip and pin its fine.  ???

Yes they do! I was there for 2 months last summer, and most places even had the portable card devices (at least in Paris).  Watch out though, the French hate debit cards for small transactions.  I even got scolded for using one at a cafe, when our transaction was €20!  They are a bit funny about using big € bill as well......but that's beside the point of your question.  :)

Oh good tips! I'll use cash for most purchases anyway but may want to make a few decent size purchases while I'm there. Thanks for your advice. Any other tips or advice you may have please PM me!  Cheers! ;)
