You're on! ;D And thanks for all your help, too! I was so nervous about the whole job/no job thing and being told to lie. Then I was worried because I didn't send my bank statements. I think maybe I either accidentally deleted the acceptance email or it never arrived, because if I was supposed to get one, I didn't! What a relief though!

My VISA has been approved!!!!!

I got an  odd phone call from someone at the British Consolate. They asked me a few questions. I was super nervous but it was all things on the application. Are we working? What are my qualifications for school? When will we be leaving? etc. Then he told me it would be issued and I should receive it by Wed. I then received emails for each application.

I am so so happy. I was super nervous about custody issues but it's been approved.

I am so relieved I sent a mass email to our families, called my husband and my dad. I was 98% sure we were gettting approved but you start to get nervous once you've bought plane tickets sold half your furniture and give notice to your job!

I totally understand what you mean, though probably to a bit lesser extent! I had already bought the tickets and had all this other stuff up in the air. So nice to have the visa all taken care of!

And to everyone who has suggested drinks, I wholeheartedly support a London UKY meetup just after we all arrive! We'll have to get to planning it soon!

I think I'm ready to apply for my visa, since my student loans just got approved.  :) I've got my passport, my letter from the school with all the information about my unconditional offer, and printouts from my student loan lender showing that my loans were approved and for what amounts. Do you think I'll need anything else?

Also, I don't have a permanent address in the UK yet--I can't stay in student housing, since my wife is bringing the cats over in October and they don't allow pets. My current plan is to stay in a bed and breakfast or hotel for a few days and do a rush job of finding an apartment during the first week. I'm anticipating a couple of questions about that from the consulate, but will it keep my visa from being approved?

You don't need to show a permanent address, just a contact address (which can be your university) and funds to pay for your accommodation and other living costs.

Okay, somebody reassure me, please. I just applied for my visa, and I'm ready to ship all the relevant documents off to the consulate in Los Angeles. I misread one question, though: the one about number of hours of daytime study per week. I put down a figure per day instead.  :( By the time I noticed, it was too late to change. I wrote an explanatory note out to the side of the question on the printed application form, but I'm not sure if anyone will actually read it.

Does anyone know if is this going to affect the process? Everything else looks okay--I've got my passport, the offer letter from the school, my diploma proving my prior educational credentials, and loan approval forms from the lender showing the money I'll have available.

I don't have any advice or words of reassurance, but perhaps Andrea will? I had a bit of a freak-out with my visa app too, so I definitely empathize. Try not to stress too much! I know it's hard not to, but I'm sure you'll have some advice soon.

I'd put a note in your cover letter about it noting that you made a mistake.  But honestly, it's not going to matter if it's a full-time degree programme, because the number of hours of study per week is only relevant for courses that are below degree level or are not full-time.

Oh, good. Thank you! I feel better--it's a two-year full-time MFA program, and I put a note with my documents correcting my mistake anyway. (I just sent my documents to the LA consulate about half an hour ago. Godspeed, little FedEx truck.)
