Good Luck with your move back to the States.  So sorry to hear about your dog....the things we do for them.  I decided the best option for our dog was to leave her in the States with family.  I miss her dearly, but I know she is well loved and cared for. I am sure your dog knew how much he/she was loved.

What part of the States will you be moving to?

Good Luck!!

Thanks so much everyone - I am overwhelmed with your kind thoughts and warm welcomes.

Sherwood: Such a hard decision, but no doubt the correct one for your dog, good for you. I am impressed, so many people think nothing of dragging their pets along with them despite the massive change and trauma of a trip.

I am heading back to Connecticut -it's not my dream location admittedly, but it's where in-laws and my best friend is. Just out of interest, where you are now, is where I grew up and went to school and I am right on the coast about 45 mins from you!

Welcome to the UK and I hope you have a happy time here.

Best wishes everyone

Sheril.
