thanks you guys have had some great ideas :) I once had a really nice recipe for pollo relleno, and turkey fajita-type wraps, but it was a long time ago now! I was capable then of not using a mix...I think with the differences between cooking here and the US I've lost my confidence :/ the first few times baking here were an expensive nightmare!

Forgot to look for flavored cream cheese, I sort of go mushy brained as soon as the doors to sainsburys swoosh open :/ Ah well have to go tomorrow to stock up for the bank holiday weekend (we're going out of town but couldnt be bothered to get a list from dh! ;)).

I'll look for the recipe mag and book as well thanks again everyone :)

thanks everyone...I'm thinking I might try some Indian food soon...everyone says to try korma, and who knows I may like it...after all I told dh I'd *never* eat beans on toast ;) became a staple when I was pregnant ;)

Why not try tandoori chicken when you go out for Indian?  It's not a fattening curry, just a yummy BBQ like chicken. It's all I'll order when I dine out - though I do like currires as well. ;)

Spanish chicken with chorizo! You can have it with rice or even new potatoes. You can find a load of recipes online if you look about.  ;D

I know it SEEMS like fruit is more expensive here, but trust me...if you like in the right place, it isn't!  I'm from Texas, where we seem to have some of the cheapest produce in the country, and I still pay less (when considering price levels, of course) for my fruit here in London.  Just find the right market!!  If you can find a cheap vendor via your local market (I'm really lucky in that I have the cheapest fruit/veg stand on earth just outside our Tube station everyday of the week!), you'll pay rock bottom prices for your produce.

Try different ethnic cuisines.  Don't limit yourself to Mexican and Italian.  Try curries or different Indian-influenced dishes.  Moroccan cuisine is healthy, unusual, and delicious!  Get a Lebanese cookbook.  Have fun experimenting with foods you don't normally cook with.  If you're sick of pasta but want a good starch with your meals, try couscous!!

I find buying a new cookbook makes me itch to get in the kitchen and try loads of new stuff.

Pick up a copy of the magazine Easy Cook. It's full of really good recipes that are very simple - last issue about three or four recipes became staples in my house. It only comes out quarterly but I noticed at the weekend that the Spring one just came out.

I cant find this...
I looked for it all weekend!   :(

Do you know, not only did I see it in Wales, but there's also an ad for it in the new Good Food. But I can't find it either. It's a total mystery.  ??? I subscribed to it about a month or so ago and only just got the direct debit confirmation in the post last week, so maybe it's on it's way now?

I've seen Easy Cook advertised in the Food Guide, but have never seen it in local stores.  It's one I'm interested in too.

I'm sure I saw it at Tesco the other day. Also try WHSmith.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
