My girls and my mother and I came over on the QM2 a couple of years ago.  The cost was less than $800 per person at the end of October.  No restrictions on the amount of baggage by Cunard, but we were limited by the airline for our flight from Las Vegas to NYC.  Don't forget to add any additional travel costs on either end of the journey...in addition to the flights, we also had the train from Southampton to Edinburgh.  Considering that the ship included transport, lodging, and most food costs for 6 days, I thought it was a bargain.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!!
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I was looking at it for what it included as well. I live 3 hours from NYC, so my parents could drive us down, no flight to restrict baggage.

I have year to worry about the logistics on the other end, but we would have to get transportation from Heathrow if we flew...

I just called Cunard to get a quote for Chloë (my cat) and the lady said it's $300 (for a summer 2008 voyage)!!! That includes litter and food and they will provide wet or dry food, whichever I prefer. I can just put in a special dietary request (at no extra charge) if their provided food isn't what Chloë will eat or need. With her anxiety, I'll bring some of the Rescue Remedy and have that put in her food. I'd get to visit her 2x per day and take her for walks and stuff if I want (she doesn't do a harness and leash, but if I can't train her I'll just walk her in the carrier and let her get some fresh air!). I just can't bring her to the cabin.

When I called BA in January to get a quote they said it would be almost $900 and that was for THIS summer, I'm sure it'll be more next year! I can't believe how much less expensive it is to bring her to sea for a week than to fly her. Even if BA includes animal reception charges in their price (I forgot to ask but thought someone mentioned it) It still seems like it'll be less expensive for Chloë to go on the QM2 than to fly.

With the lack of excess baggage charges and the kennel being so much cheaper, it seems like moving via cruise may be more cost-effective.

When I moved to the US we went on the QM2....its was wonderful all the stresses of moving were put to one side for the 5 days on the trip.

Highly recommended way to emigrate!!
