I was browsing at the magazine rack and found a National Geographic publication called last minute travel or something and gave they gave a website for all these economy airlines that fly the Atlantic. If I find it I will get back to you with it. I think I will buy it for my own use.
There are some great bargains out there.
I have a question of you.... How do you travel cheap in the UK? I don't get the 100 pounds a night hotel routine also at the B&B charging per person.
People like Travelocity don't include them with their listings.

I second Kayak.com (or .co.uk).  It's a brilliant search engine & I find that between it and Mobissimo.co.uk, I can find 99% of the cheapest flights that are available for my route/dates.

MaxiJet flies cheaply to D.C., Las Vegas, and either New York or L.A., I believe, and the service is great.

You can also try cheapflights.com. We just recently found some great deals to B'more thru them.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Just a tip...
Travel from large international airport to another then hop on a smaller flight. Try to book from hub to hub. It can save a lot.
So for example London to Atlanta on Delta
London to DC on BA or United
London or Dublin on Aer Lingus,American or United to Chicago
Or even KLM who is affiliated with Northwest flying through Amsterdam. Just get to the USA the cheapest you can using airline hubs and book an internal flight from there. If I'm going to visit my mom in Nashville. I always book London or Brum/Dublin to Chicago then book a cheap flight from Chicago to Nashville. Saves a lot believe me!

A few more:

http://www.qixo.com

http://www.sidestep.com/

http://farechase.yahoo.com/

http://www.skyscanner.net/

I love Kayak as well.

I tend to check them all since every so often one site will have a great deal the others might not. Happy hunting!  :)

hmmm. I don't know. I know most of the USA hubs. Unless they have changed....
Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth, LAX... American
Washington Dulles... United
Atlanta.... Delta
Minneapolis St Paul, Detroit...Northwest
Dallas (not DFW but DAL)Oklahoma City and also I THINK Chicago Midway is Southwest
Phoenix.... America West

There are so many I just can't remember them all. But if you can its best to find out airlines routing. For example. America West flies from LAX to LAS (Vegas) nearly every hour. It's a big route for them. Chicago to NYC on American or United is always popular with business travellers so you can usually get decent fares on these routes.
The worst thing you can do is book a small airport such as Inverness into Corpus Cristi Texas for example. It's best to fly from Glasgow to Houston or DFW and get a small flight from there.
We should make a sticky thread about this as there are a few airline/ex airline employess as well as travel agents on here!

oh also try to book your flights at least two weeks in advance and always stay over a Saturday night. These are the usual rules for 'super saver fares'. Also try travelling mid week instead of busy days. A Tues flight is usually cheaper than a Friday flight.
I usually book my flights to leave midweek and return midweek. Again another money saver.
AND..this I just found out last week. If per chance you have to cancel your non refundable ticket they are usually re-usable with a penalty fee.  And this is the LAW..the airline MUST refund your airport tax! I never new this until my travel insurance company told me. I called Air Lingus and they refunded my credit card £144 on a non refundable ticket. My insurance company refunded the rest.
The airline or travel agent will inform you of 'the rules' of your fare but they won't ever tell you they HAVE to refund airport taxes on a non refundable ticket so everyone dig out those unused tickets!

I have the most success by starting at cheaptickets.com. Then I will go to the Web site of the airline that had the cheapest flight, and the ticket is always slightly cheaper there.
