Mokume Gane (rings)

Heyas everyone. I just thought I would share this type of wedding band with everyone as I've not seen it on here and a while ago my fiance and I were thinking of getting these. We've since decided on Welsh gold (he's Welsh) but I thought that maybe another couple would like these.

"Mokume is a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns. Literally translating as "wood eye (i.e., burl) metal", the name was borrowed from one type of pattern welding used to forge katana blades. As another recent variation, has also been used to describe similarly-patterned laminations among different colors of polymer art clay."

The second link is the company that my sister bought her wedding rings from. They've had them for a number of years and unfortunately recently when she got pregnant she got her ring stuck and had to cut it. However, if you mail them your ring they will fix it for a fee.

I took several years of advanced silver smithing at university, and I tried and tried to master this technique using silver, copper, and bronze. It's insanely difficult, I got close but never quite got it right.
I really wanted rings like this, but my husband won't even wear a shirt in anything other than gray, blue, or brown, much less any kind of interesting jewelry! So plain bands it was. I still plan on getting some other piece of Mokume jewelry (a pendant, perhaps, or maybe a ring for my right hand) at some point.

Some friends of mine have Mokume Gane wedding bands, and they're even more gorgeous in person!  :)

I stumbled across these a few years ago and whilst I don't see myself wearing one, they certainly are gorgeous in their own way. I'd love to see how they look in person.

I'd love to have one of these but they are very expensive!  Sigh.

My husband's wedding band is the white one seen in this photo:

I bought it in a artsy fartsy jewelery gallery in San Francisco.  The artist is Micheal Daniels.  http://www.mdmokume.com/

my hubby loves it!

I'd never heard of mokume-gane before this thread. I love it! I looked at some other sites too, they're pricey but gorgeous!

I love some that I saw on this site

I love the Mokume Bridge-Emerald cut one and some the last two on the bottom right. But I think that the emerald cut one is more me. I like it fancy but not too much.
