So sorry MeShell, not a very nice side effect.  My mom who had GB, has also had her hair thin dramatically.  She wears a small hairpiece that looks like pretty good.  Hopefully your doctor will help you figure something out.

Is it just a side effect of drastic weight loss? Not that I'm calling you anorexic (totally not!) but one of the side effects is thinning hair. Is it due to the weight loss or directly caused by medications you had to take/are taking due to the GB? The woman in my office who had hers hasn't had hair loss, but that doesn't mean she won't have it later depending on what causes it.

Hmm.. Maybe you can ask your doctor about taking prenatal vitamins. I have a friend who has always had really thin hair, so she started taking prenatals and they thickened her hair (grew more in, also better quality of hair that grew in), and her nails got stronger as well. My sister experienced the same thing while taking her prenatals, though it was for pregnancy not just for hair care.

*hugs* im sorry!

Are you taking all the vitamines they want you to take? I know that when I went in for the consultation they said there's a possibility for that.

I hope you're able to speak with your GP and see what he/she says about what you can do to stop it from happening.

I am

my GP said a multi vit a day should be enuf and that is what I am taking...I had my blood taken last week and will get the result tomorrow and maybe she will see something in them.

I am also very tired at the moment so I think my B-12 is possibly low, but that doesn't effect hair loss

Al ack of B vitamins can affect hair, although I am not sure which ones, so can iron.  I used to have alopecia, so these where some things I needed to look out for.

I am only speaking in my mom's case, her hair has thinned.  She had the surgery in 2/2004.
My mom takes b-12, it helps with her energy levels, plus a multi-vitamins and tums for calcium.

Hugs

I was about to post the same thing about taking prenatal vitamins - when I was pregnant and took them my hair and nails were insane. I'm actually going to start taking them again at the advice of my GYN to see if it can help with my energy (I"m not expecting).

Oh no MeShell, that must be hard to take.  I hope your doctor can help get it figured out. My friend's mom had the surgery and had a really hard time with hair loss for awhile, but I think by the looks of it hers has grown back. Hopefully that will be the case for you too. No fair that you are getting the results you want then have to go through that.  :(
