Almost free flights on Ryanair!!
« on: May 16, 2007, 05:55:25 PM »
Ryanair is having by far THE best sale I've ever seen an airline have.

I just booked tickets here from Derry to London for 4 people return for 8p. That is including taxes. If you fly from London, you can go a lot of different places for 1p per person each way depending on the dates you choose.

The site www.ryanair.com has been up and down all day so keep trying or try this link to get directly to the part where you can play around
http://www.bookryanair.com/skylights.../skylights.cgi

The only thing is, take out the flight insurance as well as the baggage fee and you have a 2p return flight with NO catches. I can't believe my folks, bf and I are going to London for 8p!!!

The taxes surely can't be that low, they must be at least £20 or so.  The gov't mandates taxation on all flights, in fact, they raised the environmental tax (I think that's what it's called) from £5 to £10 for all airlines so I can't see how the flights taxes included could be 8p.

I think I spoke too soon, just looked on the ryanair page.  How can they get away with that?  I thought the whole idea of having the taxes was to discourage passengers (not airlines) from booking excess flights and emitting more greenhouse gases.  Maybe I have it all wrong.

That's what I thought too but it's true. I paid 8p and I already see that charge on my bank statement as well as getting the confirmation on the flights in email. Others have said the same. It really is amazing.

Btw, we flew Stansted to Copenhagen years ago and we caught this bus from Liverpool street to Stansted.  But now they have the Stansted Express train that's £23.50 return
http://www.stanstedexpress.com/index.asp?SID={89BAC1E2-99E6-4C4F-A4EA-B703F81118F7}
and takes about 45 minutes.
There are loads of hotels out there, I'd just check the travel sites like opodo.co.uk, expedia.co.uk, travelocity.co.uk or others.

Interesting that there were no taxes....glad it worked out that way for you, that's excellent!  :)

We recently used BA air miles for a free flight to Copenhagen but we paid tax and excess tax on top of it.  All of the sudden, it didn't seem free...something like £120 for two returns.  :(

Ouch! That was harsh in terms of fees.

I'm not expecting anything more than a flight getting from A to B but to be honest, it's so cheap it's hard to even see how it will even have enough petrol to do that

My guess is that Ryanair is paying the taxes themselves for this promotion.  I guess to generate more business?? Who knows.

Andrea,

Yep you are correct - Ryanair are paying for the taxes in this promotion. There's no such thing as a free lunch, the cost has to be taken by someone! I could be wrong of course and Ryanair might not be paying directly and/or are using some kickback deal or using some funds they were due or something like that, but from the 'Provider' and 'Customer' perspective, then Ryanair are taking the cost of the tax to help do exactly what haunted mansion did - tell alot of other people which increases the chances of more people booking and thus making Ryanair more sales!

Even though I know I can't go away at all right now, it still made me log onto their page to see those fares!

Haunted Mansion - enjoy yer almost freeby flights and time away! and cheers for letting us know, one day I might be able to get a couple days off in the med or something!

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!
