London advice?
« on: May 16, 2007, 07:52:51 PM »
Since I got these really cheap fares for London here from Derry, I am trying to get accomodation as well as transportation from Stansted Airport. Anyone have any cheap recommendations for both or either? I know what we are going to do once in London, just don't know the best way to get from that airport to London as well as where to stay

I don't have recs for accommodation but you can either take the Stansted Express train or National Express coach into London. Both terminate at Liverpool Street station. The train takes about 45 minutes. Bus over an hour but that will vary with traffic and of course is much cheaper than the train.

I saw that. It looks like it would be around £50 return for four which isn't too bad considering I really didn't pay to get over there. Now to get cheap accomodation

That is the problem with Stanstead.  It is quite far.

You can get the coach which goes into Victoria Bus station, Golders Green or Hyde Park.  Google 'Stanstead' and 'coaches' and you will find there are a couple of firms who provide coaches, and they are all different prices.

http://www.hoxtonhotels.com/

This hotel is new.  It's near my office, which is by Old Street tube station.  It is very close to all the trendy bars of Hoxton and Shorditch, but not really in a touristy area.  It's a 5 minute walk to the tube.  I just checked for June 8-10 and the rates were about £89/night.  Which is actually pretty good for a london hotel.  I have walked by and it looks very cool and trendy.  There are some great bars and restaurants nearby too.

It is also very close - 15 minute walk or £5 cab from Liverpool Street station where the Stanstead Express comes into.
