And now I want biscuits and gravy...

We always had them with honey, not gravy!

LOL! No, actually I think I picked that up somewhere in the south, but I'm not sure where it was. Or maybe from a southern friend? It definitely wasn't what we did in New England!

I'm with you, Carolyn- scones do not equal American southern-style biscuits, if you ask me.  In fact, I don't think there is a UK equivalent.  I do still like scones, though :)

I agree, there is a big difference between scones and biscuits. To me, scones are sweet and very nice with tea (the drink). Fresh biscuits (US style) are great! To me, scones are a treat and biscuits are with a meal. I really miss biscuits.

If we are talking about the plain scones you can get used for clotted cream and jam, etc.  I can see actually how it could be used as a savory dish as well.  I've had biscuits before and they do seem very similar to me.

Yeah I should say we have fruit scones....I have never tried plain scones but I am sure they are nice as well and could be used with gravy (even though I don't like gravy...weird I know).  ;)

It's a southern thing, for sure.  I've had some crappy biscuits before (like the kind you buy in a tube, in the refrigerated section of the grocery store) - those are maybe more like scones (or vice versa).

I've never bothered with KFC over here -- what good is KFC if you can't get mashies & biscuits there? ???

dont tell me you've never had honey butter before!!  :o

It is exactly what it sounds like... butter and honey whipped together and used as a spread!  You get it in some restaurants and probably every bagel shop in California.  It's brilliant on cornbread and on buttermilk biscuits.

oh, they have made advancements in biscuits in a tube!! my mom used to buy these flakey "butter" injected ones... I can taste the saltiness on my tongue.  :)

I make scones and they tend to be more on the biscuit side but that is my personal taste. I like they falling apart as opposed to some of the hockey pucks I've seen here served with tea. No amount of cream and jam is going to make it appealing to me.

I loathe butter (weird, I know), but, HONEY butter is the exception.  Oh so good and makes a biscuit taste delightful!  Mmmmmm.  I need to stop reading this thread!

I like the cinnamon butter from Texas Roadhouse!

I think it depends on the quality of the scone or biscuit for whether or not they are similar. I've had some biscuits that are more sweet and taste more like a scone. I lived in TN for 7 years and love the biscuits!!
