Control Room documentary
« on: May 19, 2007, 08:47:55 AM »
We just watched a 2004 documentary called Control Room last night.  I had never heard of it before - it was one of Steve's picks for our DVD club, but it was really a thought provoking piece relevant to the Iraq conflict.  It's about the Qatar based news agency, Al Jazeera, and their interaction as journalists with America's Cent-Com in the region.  Here are a couple links regarding it:

I really liked that it shows real people who are there, from more than two perspectives of the conflict, having civil conversatons with each other & a dialogue about the issues at hand.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the US Marine Corps press officer who features prominently in the documentary (a hunky, all-American apple pie looking kind of fellow) later on left the Marine Corps & joined the staff of Al Jazeera International.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...
