My husband and I were penpals on and off since 1985 - didn't meet in person until 2001.  We put the 2001 date as the date we first met - but I took with me the March 1985 edition of Smash Hits that had his ad which I answered... ;D

You met your DH through Smash Hits!!  ;D  that is so funny--I used to read that religiously in the 1980s!  Didn't know you had it in America!

Yep - I used to pay a fortune for the "imported" Smash Hits.  The US tried a copy-cat mag called Star Hits but it pretty much sucked!  So I'd splurge and get the real thing!

Now I think about it, what a small investment it was to find a soul-mate!

Hello,

I have a few silly questions about filling in the Spousal Visa form. We will be applying in person in L.A. a few days after we get married and I wasn't sure what to put under the section that asks have you ever been married. I assume I say yes and explain that I just got married to my sponsor. I have never been married before.  And what address should I use as my "permanent" one if I plan to move in with my husband in the UK as soon as I get the visa? If it doesn't get approved and they need to correspond to me, i will obviously still be in the USA not there ??? Sorry for the lame questions. I just want to make sure I have everything correct. I am feeling a bit nervous about the whole process and want to make sure everything is correct so I can move there ASAP!!  :D This distance thing is tough, but not long now until I am home with my love. Thanks for all of your help...

You should mark that no, you've not been married before.  The reason they ask is if you've been married before they want to see a copy of your divorce decree.  So you should mark that question no.

I believe I put my last permanent address in the US and this is what they are really after.  I don't really know why they ask for it since many of the people who apply for spousal visas have probably moved out of that address in anticipation of moving to the UK.  This was certainly my situation.  But whatever that address is, I would put that, or if you're feeling so inclined, perhaps put a parent or relative's address instead.

Best of luck!!!
