Direct Deposit of US refund in UK bank?

If you receive a US tax refund, can you have that direct deposited in your UK bank account? How?

The short answer is no.  The IRS had a pilot program with one UK bank about 3 years back but did not get the measure of success they wanted so the progam was cancelled.

You can get the IRS to mail a cheque to you in the UK and then bank the cheque here if you like...

Or, you could have it mailed to your family member's house in the US.  That's what I'm doing.

But if you come from a State where domicile is the determining factor in deciding on residence you might not want the State tax authorities to think you still have an address in that State, so you'd probably go for direct deposit in a US bank and put a foreign address on the return.
