Moving Back

Has anyone gone to the states to live on a visa then returned back to the UK then decided to go back to the states again?

If so what was the visa application like? Did you have any difficulties doing so?

I havent done this myself but if it's an important issue to you check out BritishExpats.com.

I think in this scenario you have a couple of paths to choose from. If you plan to be out of the US and intend on returning to the US then you can apply for a travel document which will allow you entry into the US after an extended stay out of the country. It does expire and you would have to continue renewing it as far as I know. I dont know how many times you can renew a travel document. Also, its not really for people who intend on moving out of the US for more than a year or two.

If you've moved out of the US and been away for more than a few years and you were granted your 10 year green card, I dont think there's an issue. Just go back to the states. If you werent granted your 10 year green card than you'd probably have to apply all over again.

I cant say if this information is 100% accurate for this situation but its at least something to go on. Its my best instinct that these are some options for people moving away from the US but as always you should contact the the BCIS and attempt to get some definite answers.

Best wishes,

You do lose your greencard if you leave the US for more than a year without first obtaining permission to leave more longer. They would probably grant the permission only if you knew how long you would be away and had a good reason eg a job posting for 2 years.

Otherwise you basically start the whole US immigration thing again.
