Nintendo Wii

We got ours with the sports game at Argos for £179 which is a good price! We had to shop online for an Argos that had them in stock. We drove to Rugby to get it!
I'm not sure if the games are universal. I'm trying to find out now.

I think that the games are region free, I know they are for the DS. Ok here's a little quote, a bit old but should help.

"UK,  September 14, 2006 - First-party games for Wii will be region-free, according to NoA's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan.

Speaking to Wired News' Joel Johnson, Kaplan confirmed that, like the DS, Wii gamers will be able to play titles from different territories without restriction. Traditionally, games purchased in regions such as Japan, US and Europe have only been playable on native home consoles. The news is likely to be welcomed by import fans, eager to get their hands on games as close to initial release as possible - however, Kaplan also suggested that region-locking on third-party games would be left up to individual publishers. Currently, it's unclear how Nintendo's region-free policy will affect the playback of existing GameCube titles, which are fully compatible with the Wii."

Yeah DS games are region free but they are hand-held. I think it's different when it's a games console that has to be hooked up to a PAL/NTSC TV.
I was wondering if the games in the USA were any cheaper becasue Im going back in July.

My husband really, really wants one.  I just keep thinking how will we afford even more games, he already has a computer game addiction (okay, okay, we have a computer game addiction).  I don't think I can afford to get him one for our anniversary though.  And for his birthday, I've already said we'll get him a new computer tower.  Maybe for Christmas... although god help us, because I don't know what we will do then.  Probably stop answering the phone or leaving the house!      Good thing there is food delivery!

See, this is why we don't have kids right now.  There's no way we could support someone else's habit too!     I'm really bad, I think worse than when I came.  Now it's... next level and I'll do some work.  I think once you are with someone else who has the same game addiction, it all goes downhill.  At least quite a few of our friends have the same addiction.  If there's an online version, we all play together.  If (When) we get a wii, I have a feeling we'll have some major wii parties, where everyone piles into our poor living room, and battles it out with each other.  Oh dear!

Well the upshot is that it's up to the game developer whether or not the game is region locked. For instance most of the Japanese games CAN'T be played on a US or UK Wii, however I'm guessing you can interchange the US or UK games.

Also it should be noted YES the games are cheaper in the US. Even if the price appears to be lower than the UK, they're not cheaper. Because of the conversion of dollars to pounds they are in fact cheaper in the US. YEAH! I buy games and send them to my fiance sometimes because of the price difference.

Also in general the US seems to get games before the UK. For instance here's an example of both cases.

Pokemon Diamond - $34.99 (Gamestop US)

Pokemon Diamond - SAVE £5.00    £24.99 (GAME UK)

Now if you buy the game in the UK it's not out until July 27th and you're also paying about $50 for it. However if you were to send someone in the US the money it would only cost you about £17 and maybe £2 to ship it from what I remember. Now it may not sound like a big saving, but you're getting it a month or more in advance.

Well all we have is the sports game that came with the console and another one that came with a free remote "Wii Play".It's for younger kids.
I've been aching for two days! It's great fun though. The sports game that comes with the Wii includes tennis, boxing, bowling, baseball and boxing. Great fun to play but I never realise just how much I was out of shape! I'm really aching all over! Half our of Wii a day should whip me into shape!
Sorry I have no idea about any other games. I would like to get Cooking Mama though

Just an FYI, the games for the Wii are NOT region free. You need to have PAL games on a PAL machine over here and NTSC for an NTSC machine. The only way to get US games to work is to chip the machine which I don't yet recommend.

As for games worth playing on the machine at the minute, Cooking Mama, Eledees and Zelda. Brilliant!

Also, this the Nintendo RRP for this machine. If you were charged more and there wasn't a bundle involved instore, it would be price gouging and would be illegal. It has to sell at that price or lower

Where I work (GAME and Argos) we get about 12 in every two weeks and they last a day. You just have to be persistent if you're looking for one. When you do that, it usually takes a few weeks and one turns up

I bought Cooking Mama, I can't wait to try it Pebbles.

Oh and Rich gets 12 free games a year, so he is getting a bunch on Monday.  Very cool!  I just wish EA made more Wii games.
