Yeah, and he even asked for the ketchup for me once because I was so embarrassed.**sigh**  [smiley=hug.gif]

OOh-btw, the food I DO really like over there?

-Diet coke(it just tastes better there!)
-shortbread cookies**drool**
-clotted cream on ice cream

and the Thai food is pretty good, too!

I'm sure I'll get used to everything else(except the bacon!)

Yeah, just a word of warning ~ Never come between a Chicago girl and her British tinned Diet Coke!

I took a whole load over to my good lady and did I get a look in at them, was there even the slightest hint of "would you like one Dear?" ~ Was there heck! >:( :P

It's now become a private joke between us!  [smiley=doh.gif] and now everyone else who reads this on UKY!

PS.  British Bacon Baps Rule!  Me and my good Lady will have to agree to differ on that point!  [smiley=argue.gif]

~ So all we need is someone from the west coast US and it'll be pretty conclusive that it's all over America ~ So it's not that weird, just American though! :P

Im from California.
I've *seen* people put ketchup on eggs, but to me that's disgusting!

i, too, like my sauces, dressings, etc. "on the side".  i'd rather dip or pour it on myself, as some foods get all soggy when smothered.   hmm... i wondered why i got funny looks here when i asked for it that way!  *lol*  thats pretty funny...

But I should have pointed out the childish (some might say pathetic!) delight that Brits take in innuendos and double-entendres and general verbal tom-foolery! It can become very tedious after a while, even for us!

so, is that why people look at me funny when i say, "i like your pants!" ?   ???  *lol*   no one told me what that really meant until i said it to my MIL, my shy niece, and numerous friends...  good stuff to know!  ;)

I was going to say that perhaps you should have kept that to yourself ~ However, I just noticed where you are and Snupy who started this thred is heading this way also, so now I'm getting worried the "On-Siders" are taking over!

I have asked for dressing on the side several times and they just ignore me. The last time I did this, I was in a Chef & Brewer pub and I even made the gesture for a little dish on the side but no, my salad was drizzled.
And I LOVE ketchup on my weekend egg white omlette.
I also find that when I go to Harvester and I ask for my jacket without cheese, they just drown it in butter instead. I have to be very clear, no butter, no cheese, no nothing. Why do they smother everything in cheese in this country? These Brits are obsessed with cheese, butter, and carbs. Chips and cheese with everything.
OK, I am ranting. I will cease.
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

if you are expecting anything approaching good service (or good food for that matter) Harvester is not the place to go ... unfortunately it's my grandma's favourite so i get to go there several times a year! I do like their salad bar though, at least you can do your own thing with that.

On a similar theme, when my good lady came over at the start of the year I decided to treat her to a Pizza from my fav take away.  She is from Chicago you see and they think that they know a good Pizza (yeah right!).

Anyway, I ordered a side salad with the pizza and I think that she thought she would share my salad.  Well that was until she saw it!  she was absolutely dumbfounded that they served a salad in a tiny tub that fits in your hand ~ To add insult to injury it didn't even contain a single letuce leaf! :(

When I made a return visit to Chicago, she made a expressed point of taking me to a Cheese Cake Factory restaurant and ordered a salad there ~ Not to exagerate (well, ok a little) you almost needed a seperate table for the salad plate!  :o**WOW!**

But as I keep telling her, size isn't everything!  ;D  :P
