Just wondering UK Citizenship and DCF?
« on: June 06, 2007, 11:25:26 AM »
Has anyone applied for UK Citizenship and then DCF or the other way around?  Or is it safer to apply for UK citizenship and then do DCF later?

We are going back the to US (even though I love it in the UK) and I want my UK citizenship so I can come and go as I please with my son and spouse.

I have no idea, but it's a good question.  I've always thought I'd want citizenship here before we ever considered moving to the US.

I just get paranoid in this day and age that an intent to leave the UK to be a repat might endanger being able to get UK Citizenship.

I want to return in so much as it is a good option at this point in our lives, but I fully plan to return to the UK to live.

You don't have to show intent to stay in the UK when applying for citizenship based on marriage. You could start both processes at the same time with no problems. There are a few people over on Dive Into America (forum.diveintoamerica.com) who have done what you are asking about.

We're in the same boat. We had intended to do the UK citizenship this summer (now actually) but the fees increase  scuppered that plan. So now I will probably do DCF soon (as you may have seen, those fees are going up, too, on 1 Aug!!). So we are sending the I-130 asap if we can swing that fee, and proceed if Glenn gets a US job offer.

But I'm very interested to hear about the UK citizenship app concurrent with the DCF because I want that before I leave (if we do).

ETA, cross-posted with tanis - thanks for that - I feel better already!

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
