What about Avalon Organics? Next time you go would you mind seeing if any of their products are at the Kensington shop? They used to do a lovely lavender deodorant that I really liked!

(Sorry to be so demanding ... but enquiring minds want to know!)  :)

Chary, my local health food shop (Framar Health--I think it's a chain) carries oodles of Avalon Organics stuff. I need to go this weekend anyway; if you'd like I can check on the deodorant for you.

I've never been to a Whole Foods in my life, but I am strongly tempted now.  How are they on American imports??

Just to make everyone jealous... ;)

Found it!  :D Let me know if you'd like me to send you some--I'd be happy to. I walk by the shop every day anyway.

That's so nice ... but I looked up Framar Health and they have an online shop! Yaye!! I don't need no steeenkin' WholeFoods!  ;) :P

Also, if anyone's interested, Framar also sells Tom's of Maine toothpaste!

Thanks again for the really kind offer, Elynor!  :)

Actually, I found the deodorant at the other health food shop on my street--Framar had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, but I didn't find the deodorant. (Of course, I also didn't find the lavender oil I was looking for, which I *know* they have...it was that kind of morning.  :P ) And I didn't see Avalon Organics on Framar's website. So...if you found it and I'm just a dope, grand, but if not the offer still stands!  :)

No, you're right. I looked for it and didn't find it. But I found it here! I don't know why I just assumed I wouldn't be able to find it in the UK, but I'd never really searched before!  :)

Anyone notice how people in the UK loveeeeee to bash American cheese and how you can;t get good cheese, and how it is all disgusting (Bill Bryson included and I can't see how the Dartmouth area wouldn't have a shop that sold good cheese considering how rich it is).

Now with the Whole Foods, all the papers keeping talking about a huge cheese selection, an "American" bevvy of cheese choices and how much cheese do you really need?  BAH!!!!

I think my area at home has a better selection of cheese than any of my local stores here.  Yes, we have lots of British cheddar, but at home with our farmer's market we have three stands with way more international cheese.

::) yeah I have always wondered about that too particularly when Americans do it... what sad place were they shopping or living? California has great cheese... "It's the cheese" and "happy cows come from California" and all that advertisement. I always tried different cheese from the deli counter. But if all you ever bought was Kraft pre-shreaded cheese, well no surprise it will be a disappointment... just like I know my local Sainsbury's has a selection of ho hum average packaged cheeses.

The allure of English cheddar is wasted on me. I like speciality cheeses... mmm, my fav was a cumin cheese I carried all the way back from Wales... and a  stinky cheese I carried all the way back from France. Stilton is a favorite too. I am working on a Swiss Guyere now.

I had a Whole Foods near my work and when I'd get time I'd pop in and stroll the aisles and sample all the different cheeses. My favorite lunch time treat was the fresh corn bread, yum.

Did they have any interesting and unusual fruits or vegetables there? I'm always on the lookout for new produce.

Just to make you all jealous....I went last night after work!

 :-*

It was great.  I was super impressed with the cheese and if I wasn't leaving on hols in a day, I would have bought loads.  but I don't want to waste all that yummy cheese.

I have to say the prices were not that bad (I shop at Waitrose normally - so maybe view is a little skewed).  I bought three big containers of seeds (pumpkin, sunflower and pine nut) to make a little mixture I bought the other day.  They were each £1.64.  The individual serving I bought the other day....£1.99.  So I think I got a good deal.

I also bought these two-bite brownies that are GORGEOUS!!!

There is a whole food court upstairs.  And the nicest loos in all of Kensington, well the ones open to the public that is.  Definitely worth the trip.  All the freebies were delicious!

L:ook at you speaking all english.  ;)

I've never heard anyone say this, but if they did, it would probably be because they had an encounter with that horrible fake shiny 'American cheese', or Velveeta.
