Squash (the drink) in the US?
« on: June 07, 2007, 02:05:53 PM »
My husband LOVES his orange squash.  I think if we were ever to decide to go back to the US that would be the dealbreaker. So I'm wondering if they have anything the same or similar.  I've not really looked, so I don't know.

Last time he was there my mom found some orange drink that was very similar, but it was more like soda in a 2 liter bottle.  But it did the trick for a short stay.

I'll have to ask DH what might be comparable. I never had it when i was in the UK so I don't know what to compare it to. One thing though, World Market or one of those type stores may have it. They have loads of different pops.

Something like Crystal Lite has similar results to squash, even though it's originally in powder form.  That's the closest thing I can think of.

every time i've tried squash it takes like watered down juice to me.  perhaps i've had really bad squash? in all seriousness, have you tried that?

I think orange Crystal Light and orange squash taste very similar.  The sugared version in the U.S. is called Tang.

Crystal light and Tang are the same? (company I mean)  I didn't think of tang, hmm, maybe I should get some to see.  (Do they still sell it?  I've never had it myself)

I've always thought that squash tastes more like real fruit than Crystal Lite does. But then I don't really know what the ingredients are, so maybe they're closer than I think.

But you can make squash any strength that you want! That's the beauty of squash!  ;D

No, sorry I didn't mean to mislead.  They're not related, but to me they taste the same so I think of them as interchangable  ;D

When I left in July 2006 they were still selling it.  Although Crystal Light was sold in a completely separate aisle by the soda, whereas Tang was stocked in the juice aisle.

Ahh, OK, I got it now, thank you ;D

I'll try both for him see what he thinks.  Great ideas guys, thanks!

OK, but if anyone has actually seen Squash, let me know :P

Brilliant!  Thank you! I wonder if Rich can wean himself off the stuff?  Seriously, the man gets really antsy if there is less then an inch left in the huge jug.  With that and ketchup.  He seeks it out if that happens.
