Anyone else do this?
« on: June 12, 2007, 08:37:20 PM »
An American friend living in the UK said I should write on the top of my return "Taxpayer - Resident Abroad" because I was taking advantage of the extra two months.

Has anyone else done this?

Thx

It is SOP to write "TAXPAYER ABROAD" at the top of page 1 of the 1040 plus on all paper extensions.

See here, for example:

I've been attaching a little letter to my return. I didn't have a problem last year, so I don't think I'll have one this year.

By the way, I received a tax packet from the IRS after April 15, so I guess they assumed I would be taking the extension anyway.

TAXPAYER ABROAD is the correct method to get the extra two months.  Other methods may also work, but TAXPAYER ABROAD is the one the IRS recommends.
