I think I have Middlemarch and if I do, it will be the Oxford University Press Edition.  I'll check when I get home.  No need to pay for it.  :D

Sorry Pebbles, unfortunately I left a lot of books behind when I moved (kind of regret it) but that said I think you will like "Germinal" and "The Awakening". I did!

If I recall correctly Kate Chopin's book was actually banned for awhile...it was quite controversial in its day.

OH!  DF reminded me of this site:

www.readitswapit.co.uk

You may be able to find some of the books on there.  It is teamed with Amazon but all you pay for is postage (it is a book exchange).  Sign up and look around.  Just wrote myself a note to check for Middlemarch tonight.  ;D

Try a car boot sale, Pebbles. Just this past Sunday I saw Far From the Madding Crowd in a box of 6-for-£1 books. I wish I'd known!

My books are all in storage, or i'd certainly help out.

If you have a Sussex stationers near you they are doing many of these titles for a pound, if that helps.

A lot of these books are out of copyright and if you aren't concerned about the edition (ie, Oxford Press edition), then you can download them for free at:

http://manybooks.net/
http://www.gutenberg.org/

Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

Project Gutenburg is an old friend for me, but thank you for the link to manybooks.net.
I've found tons of goodies there, which shall keep me busy for days if not weeks.

Note to Pebbles - I saw at least three of the items you were looking for in the Gothic section.
